What A Police Force?

This was not the most dogged police force I have ever seen portrayed in a film.
I know their relentless pursuit has nothing to do with the whole point of the movie. But the memebers of this town's Polezi unit are definitely not the offspring of any "master race" gene pool!

I think most Austrians/Germans dropped the "master race" thing back in the 40's after we kicked their asses in WW2.

M Cobretti you are right.

Since the Brits and most Americans come from German stock, and since our lead general was German (Eisenhower), seems that it was the master race vs. the master race.

That was Churchill's war, buckaroo.

Brits do NOT come from German stock. Not even a slight majority. What a bizarre thing to suggest.

I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.

reply

Yeah, USA, UK, Russia, and the rest of Europe vs Germany. Germany was clearly the one doing the "ass kicking". :P

If you've heard of it, it's already too mainstream for me.

I kept thinking the same thing. There's no reason why the police wouldn't have been able to track Alex down through his connection with Tamara.

reply

They couldn't ID Tamara. I think they mentioned it at least twice.

As for the Austrian police... well, I'm Austrian and the father of my last ex-girlfriend is a cop. So... I really hate to say it, but this movie's police force was actually portrayed realistically.

Okay, except that he shouldn't have shot in the first place. In Austria a cop has to file a report for every single bullet fired on duty, even if it was just a warning shot aimed straight up into the air. But then again in the movie it was a heat-of-the-moment thing and there was a huge focus on humane mistakes.

They were small town police. The state police took a dim view of the shooting and charged him with manslaughter. I doubt they will get a conviction if it came to a jury trial.

There are police departments in the US where they are not supposed to shoot at fleeing suspects because once they get past you they are no longer a threat to you. I doubt that holds if they know for sure you have just committed a felony like bank robbery or shot someone.

They couldn't id the girl because she was there illegally from the Ukraine and her boyfriend had all her things including her photo ID.

AFAI an armed suspect is most likely a dead suspect in the US. This movie surprised me.
