Really enjoyed this movie

Just stumbled across this movie on cable, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

So many stories within a story. Have an ex who moved to Johannesburg when he was 7yrs old, and heard his horror stories of the apartheid, Winnie Mandela's Death Squads, and the necklacing. This movie really showed me what he went through, being the same age as the photojournalists in the 90s.

He's back in SA living in Cape Town now.

This movie is really intense, and deals with so many ethical issues war correspondents have to deal with. Really worth the time to watch.

I read on Wikipedia that João Silva lost both his legs below the knee in Kandahar by an IED either during, or after this film was made about him, and the Bang Bang Club members.

Very Intense, great movie. Surprised there was no publicity about it in the US.

I also just stumbled on it, I really enjoyed it, and to find out it was based on the actual war there affected me even more. I only watched it because of who was in it. I would have never watched it from the title.

Another interesting fact, is that all the big action, and or emotional scenes, were shot on location, where it actually happened, 20 years ago, that was pretty intense, as all the elders in those hostels, still remember the incidents clearly, and a lot of them still live/lived there.

I agree. It's actually really surprising that this film is not more widely known.
