'We will sleep quietly only when the Palestians will have hope'

I thought this was an interesting, beautifully made film. And I'm hoping someone can answer this question. At one point the defense minister repeats a saying from his father: "We will sleep quietly only when the Palestians will have hope."

Maybe there is a problem with the translation, but I cannot understand what that means.

Was that when he was speaking English to someone (rather than when subtitles had appeared on screen). I was also confused with that line and figured he must have said or meant "...when Palestinians have NO hope".

He meant exactly what he said. That once Palestinians are given Hope, then the conscience of the Jews will feel at peace and they will sleep better.

I thought that was a powerful statement from his father.

It's like when both sides give each other some form of respect/chance etc, one step forward, zwo steps back etc, then both parties have something positive to look forward to?

Or did i understand it incorrectly?
