Waste of time, talent and oppurtunity

This film is a massive waste of time, talent and oppurtunity. The story of Michael Peterson is fascinating and so is his biography, an absolute masterpiece could be crafted from his lifestory if you have the right people involved. Bronson has the right people to craft this film, but this is one of the most poorly directed films i've seen in a while, every scene is filled with bad decisions, from the awful score, to the obnoxious cinematography and all around horrible choice of telling this fascinating story as a collage of interrelated scenes than telling it as 'normal' narrative, which wouldve been so much better. As much as this may be an acting tour de force for Tom Hardy, Bronson is never constructed as anything more than a one-dimensional caricature. That's the problem with this film. Hardy gives a powerhouse performance as a shallow, stupid caricature. We never learn anything interesting about him or anything. Except that he is crazy, and destroys everything around him.

Bad decision upon bad decision made me dislike this movie very much, and a strong performance cant alleviate my feeling for it.

It was hilarious though.

I have to disagree that he's one dimensional. It's been quite awhile sense I've seen it so some details are a bit fuzzy.

When he returns home from prison to find that his mother has thrown out all of his old things, he's quite upset, especially about his bed. This hurt him, unlike a punch ever did. Also the scene with the stripper, where he watches. There's a lot of pent up sexual angst that he doesn't know how to go about releasing (a hand just simply won't do). This shown in greater detail when he speaks with the woman he'd later try to propose to.

There is laughs in these moment but that doesn't diminish the truth in the character.

It's certainly got problems as a film. Not having a script will do that. Refn was a nightmare from what I've gathered.

loved the film,Refn wasn't interested in making a biopic.
I feel this as a comedy, told in a pure visual way.
I actualy think he mocked Peterson and didn't like him one bit.

This film was very influenced by Kenneth Anger, mainly Scorpio Rising('64).

Refn isn't for everyone,I think he a true virtuoso.

Thank god for off-beat directors who stick to their vision and do things different.

I can only imagine what he OP thinks about Only God Forgives.

If I remember correctly Bronson was going to hardly be in the movie when this project was first conceived. I agree. I don't believe he had any interest in Bronson himself, that all came from Hardy and his screenwriting friend (I cannot remember her name). They both should have received a writing credit...but that's another story.

If one cannot chew on Bronson then Only God Forgives will drive them mad. I think Bronson is one of his more accessible films really.

The world of film is more interesting with Refn in it.
