Did Anyone Not Like Ellen Page's Friend 'Pash'?

To me she ruined the movie... she came off as annoying in every scene she was in.

I agree, and, to me, it wasn't believable that she got into Columbia and Johns Hopkins. Coming from Bodeen, Texas, she would have had to be a much more serious student than she was shown to be. She would have to be top of her class, and I didn't see anything that looked like she could be.

reply

Uh, it's not really that difficult to get into Hopkins or Columbia. In the class ahead of me in high school, one buddy went to Hopkins, one went to Columbia (well, Barnard anyway). Hopkins didn't interest me because I had no interest in med. school. Great schools, sure, if you want to go someplace big, but neither was a stretch for me when I was applying.

As a regional diversity select, Pash would have been plausible as a Columbia incoming.

Didn't she say she got straight A's in everything at the start of the film? That suggests she'd be pretty near the top of her class, doesn't it?

Are all those dark freckles real?

I thought she was very likeable in the movie tbh.

On the outside, I was an honest man. I had to come to prison to be a crook

reply

You guys are all idiots: she was amazing and blew everyone else off the screen in every scene she appeared.

in the book, pash's whole drive for straight A's, and the fact that she's not american (arab-american) was described in more detail that was skipped in the movie. (i found out that pash is a girl shauna went to film school with at UT who's actually iranian.)

i thought alia was hilarious, and totally cute. i love her freckles, and the fact that she's not a size negative zero. the scene where she was making out with a boy in the shower, and then had to puke was soooo funny.

bottomline, i disagree. i thought pash/alia was fantastic.

That's what I'm talking about.

Her?

reply

Yeah she was cool and gave good lift hugs.

She's the most likable non-skater in the film.

agree, jockey. i like pash way more than ellen's character. ellen is the same in every movie she is in & i find her to be incredibly over-rated. for instance the scene where they announce the poster girl, & they say do the face! then she just did the same face she always has, non-descript. pash & razor were the best things about this movie. & the rocker guy.

I couldn't buy her being high school age.

Yes, I realized that by ages Pash was close to high school age, even closer than Ellen Page, but to me she just did not look it.

reply

I totally loved her character! Every girl needs a best friend like that .

I thought it was ridiculous that she's complaining to Bliss about just struggling to get out of this hick town...then all of a sudden she's like "I think I'll go to Columbia University." Her getting into a local school would have made her character a bit more realistic.

- or so the Germans would have us believe...

She reminded me of somebody the entire movie and I have yet to figure out who it is.

Prof. Farnsworth: Oh. A lesson in not changing history from Mr. I'm-My-Own-Grandpa!

I liked her character a lot, must be the freckles. 6/10
