best turkish movie

it's the best turkish movie i've ever seen and what u think about this movie?

reply

Maybe not the best but I think it's a candidate to share the first place with the movie "Eskiya"
. If you can find it, give it a try...

reply

definitely not the best, but obviously a good movie because of its historical meaning..

reply

it's not the best Turkish movie and furthermore it's not even close.
it's just another militarist propaganda and despite the general opinion it's not as close to the reality as it said.

reply

How the hell is this a militarist propaganda? Please elaborate?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

Militarist, anti-militarist, war, anti-war... Lets clarify those in our minds, shall we?

This movie is not militarist or pro-war movie by any means!

It openly criticizes war (especially war between brothers!) and offers peace as the solution.

This is what I got from it..

reply

I have to agree with you on that the movie criticizes war. Maybe not directly, but I think it's pretty clear that they want to show that war is good for neither side. I just watched this, and I didn't think it seemed to be a very biased at all, like someone claims. There are so many other war movies that are over the top patriotic and nationalistic, where the enemy is smeared as evil. There will of course be some elements of this since we as viewers are following one group of soldiers, but I don't think this movie was "unfair" by any means.

I thought the movie was very good, but I don't know that much of the conflict. Not that it was needed, since there aren't any real accusations or historical references in it (at least that I caught). I'm a bit skeptical to 70 % voting 10/10 though... I personally think the makers could have shortened it a bit, since the movie was pretty much going nowhere for an hour. I'm not saying I wanted more action scenes, and I think character building and getting into the environment is important, but I still found it a bit boring from time to time in the middle.

For the record I'm neither Turkish or Kurdish and gave it an 8. I'd rather give it a 7 than a 9 though.

It is absolutely the best. That is all...

reply

I totally agree. The best Turkish movie and also one of the best of all-time.

reply

I don't think it's the best turkish movie but it's definitely a good one. Especially the relationship (or the bond) between soldiers is more than real because their feelings, their longings, their joys, their griefs are exactly as shown in the movie.

--- SPOILER ---
Although it's not the best turkish movie, the assault scene at the end should be considered as a masterpiece for the turkish cinema.

"Bal" or Enlish title "Honey".German Turk. director Semih Kaplanoglu

It is excellent, but there are quite a few Turkish movies that are better such as Eskiya, Muhsin bey, Anayurt Oteli, Yol, Gegen Die Wand (Duvara Karsi), Uzak, Iklimler, imo.

reply

No offence, but if this is your best turkish movie... then you should do something about raising up your cinematography because this movie quite sucks...

@aletannu

This is the best movie , because it's about the teror in the Turkey. There is no other sample to explain it as correctly. If you want to learn the truth of (pkk teror)and how fight against into Turkey.
So in my opinion, you should watch the movie again.

If you want an advice from me, i can recommend to you a couple of movie.

My Father and My Son
The Bandit

I did understand the idea and the message of the movie and I also can say it could have been a great movie, but the script was very poor, very static and tried too much to show the inside of those soldiers that it failed in it. It tried to be somehow a movie and a documentary at the same time, showing the life and feeling of those people, but they have exaggerated in focusing human behaviour for dramatization, instead of an optimal combining of those dramatical moments with reality of fighting the enemy. I really don't think turk soldiers are so poorly trained mentally and physically ! As I know, turks are people with a strong mental character and more than that, because we are refering to soldiers, they should have been more powerfull (mentally), even if they were young; Corect, they were humans, but they were also trained for those kind of situations. So, dramatization is exaggerated and I really don't think the movie reflects reality.

@grease78, the great majority of the Turkish people have thoroughly rejected the failed methods or dealing with the Kurds and the PKK Depicted in this film.

The fact is our solders there died (and killed) in vain. Our military did nothing to reduce Kurdish separatism, militancy and in some cases terror. The slow democratization of Turkey, which our parasitic military class has opposed, is what disapped Kurdish nationalism and its affects.

Teh less we have fought them, the less we have gone into their towns with conscripts led by brutal thuggish Turkish military officers, and raped and killed them, the less we have prohibited their langauge and identity, the more integrated they have become.

it's up to everyone's own taste but it's mostly Turkish nationalists who love this film

This honestly is a great film, so the idiots trying to put it off as 'militaristic' or 'only liked by Turkish nationalists' are just annoying. If you didn't like the movie go away, just because it's Turkish don't try to slander it.

When this film came out it broke records in terms of attendance at Turkish Cinemas. Obviously, a film that attracts such a large portion of the population does not adhere to a certain specific 'militarist' or 'nationalist' section of the population. (If that's the case than every movie ever made about war from Saving Private Ryan to Grand Illusion is 'militaristic' and 'nationalistic').
