Hollywood: 'Light skin chicks rule!'
They gave this movie to Paula only because of her look combined the hype surrounding her. She left me dazed in Deja View with Denzel, wondering "Who is that?" Then Robin Thicke had her (at the time) and she did a few other movies with better actresses (like Jump the Broom) so her weaknesses did not shine. But in this one, boy did they ever. It was apparent to me she just could not carry the film. It just seemed she was light, cute, and so she got the role. However, would a woman that is light, cute and sexy really have that kind of problem finding a man, for real?
This film would have been something more if they took a chance a made Jill Scott the star. But no, they had to go with that Hollywood mentality of what is perceived as "sexy" driving movie ticket sales. So they chose a questionable actress over Jill, who could have brought a bigger fan base and more fan fare than the cruddy light skin sex pistol?
I really think if they switched Paula and Jill, made Paula the playette and Jill the one looking for a good man, this would have still been forgettable, but more interesting.
Oh, and did anybody think Paula took a lot of acting pointers from the ditzy character Sinclair from the TV sitcom "Living Single"? I swear, I thought some of the mannerisms were modeled after that character.
