okay i don't know. maybe australia has different models of nikon slr's than usa.

which nikon model was this? it's 35mm but i've never seen a small one like this.

Only a tad late but here's your answer:

It's a Nikon EM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikon_EM)
with a Nikkor 50 mm - F/1.8 - Nikon F

Clearly visible in the HD-version of the movie.
