What's up with Texas inspection sticker and registration on the car?

Movie is set in Australia, but the car the boys "step-mother" drives has a Texas inspection sticker and registration sticker...what's up with that?

reply

nobody including the movie director ever said it was set in australia.
it was filmed in adelaide, yes, but it's set in sunshine hills and that can be about anywhere in the world. it's a picture of 'the idyllic suburb' and the exact location is just not important. same about the time period, could be happening now as well as 20 years ago. to me 'beautiful' is a bit of a fantasy film, an imaginary world with it's own rights and rules.

You've got to be kidding. It can be anywhere in the world? Sure, anywhere where everyone talks with an Australian accent. Obviously, if there are Texas tags in it, it is a major screw up. And, it wasn't remotely a fantasy film. It was just a bad film.

i doubt the texas tags were there on purpose but it's a detail that doesn't affect the story in any way rather than a 'major screw up' and i can also imagine it might only bother american audience (or those who know) since the rest of us have no idea how american car tags look like. also it doesn't really matter where in the world sunshine hills is exactly as you can see this kind of neighborhoods in many places around the world and i think this is what the director has tried to achieve, an image of suburb we all can relay to but that's just my opinion.

Your making way too much of the Texas registration...I lived in Kentucky but had an old Venezuela license plate that I brought back from living there on the front of my car ("real" front plates are not required in Kentucky).

Probably just some cheapo cost-cutting in the filming, nothing as dramatic as showing different times and places at once.

The step mother's car was also left-hand drive, unlike most of the cars, so I imagine it was imported from the U.S. Perhaps they just left the U.S. registration stickers on the car. (I think most Australian States have abandoned registration stickers, because police can check registration by just scanning a car's number plates.)
