Spoilers : Did I miss something?

Spoilers:

The plot of this movie made very little sense to me and the more I think about it the more confused I am. The narrative at the very beginning of the film states emphatically a few girls disappeared and were found hacked up to pieces (paraphrasing). Was this not accurate? Is this narrative at the beginning false?

Then the movie goes on and I can follow it until the ending 10 minutes. Did I miss something? The boy receives a phone call from Suzy and he goes over to save her at house #46. Or did the woman at #46 call pretending to be Suzy? The crazed ex-con is sitting in a room and starts talking crazy to the boy about just leave us alone etc. The ex-con then tries to hurt the boy and is killed. Then the ex-con’s girlfriend states I’m not your mom and is accidentally shot. Why would she show the boy a bracelet earlier in the film if she wasn’t his mom? How did she have it? And if she wasn’t his mom why on Earth would she show a random boy a bracelet?

Anyway, the boy’s father comes in and tells him Suzy was never kidnapped. The cop then shoots himself. I am assuming to protect his son from double murder charges. This way it looks like the cop shot the two and then himself.

Then Suzy simply winks at the boy when she sees him in front of her house. What kind of reaction is this? Does this mean she was never abducted and she sent the boy over to #46 as a prank? If so, what sense does that make? Why would she do such a thing?

Then the final monologue is by Suzy’s mother talking and making it look like she is the murderer. Or is she just some crazy mom who imagines things? And if Suzy was NOT kidnapped what does the mother mean when she says Suzy was abused at #46 that night. While the mother says this Suzy is shown in her bed laughing for no reason like she is crazy. Is everyone crazy in this film?

Either this is one of the worst screenplays ever written or I missed something very critical while watching this late one night on Starz.

I agree - WTF?? I totally don't get the ending. Came on here looking for answers...

BTW, I was watching it on DVD, so I could rewind and see scenes again. Didn't help though.

(Spoilers)

It was all confusing til Suzy's mother delivers a monologue at the end. She explains that Danny's father (the cop) was involved with the couple living at house 46. They were responsible for killing children AND of killing Danny's REAL mother. Maybe that's the reason why Jennifer had the bracelet which belonged to Danny's real mother. The cop kills himself out of remorse, because he remembers these crimes of his past, and maybe also to avoid his son being charged for shooting the couple. My guess is that Suzy already knew that the couple living in house 46 were criminals, so she seduced and asked Danny to spy on them and get in their house just to make him seek trouble.
Decent film, though a bit confusing 'til the last 5 minutes. (6/10)

I don't think you've got it, to be honest. As you can remember the whole story about missing girls is supposed to an urban legend - a rumour. And who is the main gossiper in this town? Who "knows" everything about everyone and also has an oppinion about it? It's our lovely narrator - a judgemental and manipulative b*tch and her daughter is turning out to be just like her. She opens the movie with her story (where she keeps repeating: "I heard" = gossip) and her monologue finishes it. This is also the only way she can be responsible for the killings, but not commiting them herself.

I think these gossipry put the "sex offender" to jail and ruined his life. That is why he was so protective of his life and privacy. He wanted a new start, but Danny's snooping around was a threat to that, and he simply lost it. We know from before he was violent, but that's it.

Also I don't think any of them had anything to do with Danny's mother dying. It must have been a terrible experiance for his dad, so even after 14 years he still wasn't able to come to terms with it. That explains his cold and distant relationship with Danny and Sherrie. Could also be the main reason for his suicide.

The only thing that is still troubling me is the bracelet. I'm not quite sure where that fits in.

This is the way I saw things as well.

As for the bracelet, I think the woman (Jennifer) just showed it to Danny to emphasise the point she was making: once someone's life is touched by an ugly event, they're often incapable of seeing any sort of beauty. (I imagine Danny would've abandoned photography after the bloodbath he saw.)

The fact that Jennifer and Danny's mother owned identical bracelets was mere coincidence. (These two women would've been about the same age and it's possible that the bracelet design was popular when both were in their late teens.)

I certainly don't believe that the policeman, Jennifer and her partner were involved in Satanic child murders!

Are you joking? You are more delusional than Suzy's mother. Suzy's mother's monologue at the end is not supposed to represent the actual facts. Rather, it shows that the mother was rather delusional.
