LOVED IT, QUESTIONS POSSIBLE SPOILER

I WAS JUST BORED AND TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING ON DEMAND AND WHAT A NICE SURPRISE. LIKED IT SO MUCH I'M GONNA WATCH AGAIN. THIS MOVIE IS SOOOOOO REAL AND TRUE. MY ONLY QUESTIONS ARE WHERE WAS LEIGH'S CAR PARKED AT THE END AND WHY WAS SHE HOSPITALIZED?

reply

Leigh was institutionalized in a mental facility. She was obsessed with her former high-school girlfriend and had been stalking her for twelve years. Leigh was parked in the woman's driveway when Kari found her.

I came across this movie the same way. I was bored and trying to find something to watch. The discription of the movie seemed interesting so I decided to watch it. This movie moved me to tears because of the realness of it. It was very well acted. I'm surprised that I have not heard of this movie before now. Was this straight to DVD?

I just happened upon this movie the other day, only a few days after seeing the latest Tyler Perry film, For Colored Girls. IMO, Mississippi Damned was the kind of dramatic piece that For Colored Girls failed to be. FCG was an overdone melodrama, with over acting galore (particularly Thandie Newton) and too many disjointed storylines going on at once. However, Mississippi Damned managed to tell the stories of several characters at once, all highly dramatic, without being overdone or unrealistic. I found it to be a very brave, honest portrayal of what could have easily been actual events.

I love that character actors and relative unknowns were used in place of big name actors, too, because it made the film that much more real.

I agree with you 100% about Mississippi Damned/ For Colored Girls. Tyler should take notes from this director. Tyler is highly overrated and there are many talented African-Americans writer/directors out there that are better than him.

reply

Exactly! I wonder why the mainstream media gives him so much spotlight...?

This film should have seen a theatrical release.

reply

It says at the beginning of the film that it was based on a true story, so clearly it's autobiographical.
