Asking for a character analysis of Mary Florescu (Spoiler)

I have not read any material that had spawned this film but I've enjoyed it none the less. The one thing that I don't understand is how Mary's character did a complete 360 on Jonas.
Throughout the film she seems to be a caring person despite being very ambitious in her line of work but even that came across as her trying to prove something to herself as she had ghosts in her closet so to speak.
My question stems from after the fact of realizing the Tollington's place was a corporeal intersection followed by her vowing to the dead that she would tell their stories to the world, she just decides to have Jonas skinned once he fled her estate?
I understand woman's fury once scorned, I also understand Jonas boy scout points went out the window once he was discovered to be a fraud but still I just don't understand?
Perhaps there is information in the book(s) that a reader would care to share because despite the problems between the two and given her personality, it just seems off.

I would disagree that she was a caring person earlier in the film and did a "360". She manipulated Jonas from the start by having sex with him, as clearly, she had no feelings for him. This was apparent when after the second night when Jonas was being cut, instead of running in to Jonas' room, she hesitated outside and let this continue.

The clues were there all the way through the film that her only concern was to exploit Jonas and to further her fame and fortune.

Hmmmm, now that you mentioned it, I see you have a point there. I would have to watch this again under intense focus to catch all of this but for now, I will agree with you. Thank you for responding.

One could also argue that because of her trauma (she felt guilty for not sharing her visions of the dead girl(s) and maybe saving the ones that eventually got murdered) she feels that she has a debt to the dead. She repays it by telling their stories, something she failed to do when she was younger.
