Most Inept Hitmen In Movie History

Just watching this now. 3 minutes in and the big shooting scene happens, and I dunno if I want to bother watching any further.

First, they fire maybe 100 rounds total, at point blank range, and only hit him 22 times? - and there's pnly a handful of holes in the car.... OK, must've been Chinese-made guns & a lot of blanks (you know, to scare the guy to death) but I can get past that, sort of.

-But then not one of these pros has the common sense to put a bullet into his brain? He wasn't even shot in the heart. It's not like the cops were coming and they had to get away fast.

These guys are more inept than the Swedish hitmen in "The American," and that's really saying something.

What's with the jingoistic crap about Chinese-made guns?

reply

First, drop the chinese reference, thats just lazy and ignorant.

Secondly, this was loosely based on a real incident, and a real man.

Jacques "Mad Jacky" Imbert was considered the last godfather of marseille.

In 1977 he was ambushed by a rival gang and shot multiple times, with only half a dozen being removed, and he lost the use of his right hand.
French paper Le Monde wrote "Small matters, he learned to shoot with the left".

In an interview, he said "The cops always came to ask me about the jobs I didn't do. For the ones I did do, I never saw anyone".

All of which made appearances in this film.

And if you watch to the end of the film, you'll know that it was one of the gun mens intent to miss him entirely.

And no one said they were pros, just henchmen; even taking drugs before going out on the hit.

I must assume you are an American watching too many american hitman movies. Real life can and does offer surprises

reply

While this is one man.... when multiple people have been up against the wall for a firing squad some people have survived (obviously with massive wounds)

A man has survived a machete through the skull, without brain damage.

I personally have saw a man be glassed point blank and walk away without a single cut.

One of them was shooting away deliberately, remember?

reply

No, he stopped watching after that scene. His fault.

From Wikipedia:

On 1 February 1977 Imbert survived a murder attempt by Tony Zampa's crew. Legend has it that one of the men said: "a swine like him isn't worth 'le coup de grĂ¢ce' let him die like a dog". He was shot many times and doctors removed twenty-two projectiles, including seven bullets, from his body. His right arm remained paralysed as a result of the attack; though the French newspaper Le Monde wrote, "Small matter, he learned to shoot with the left".

Imbert's revenge came when eleven of Zampa's associates were gunned down for the failed murder attempt. Imbert was later arrested as he allegedly prepared for another killing. No charges were brought against him, and he was released after six months. When he came out a truce had been declared.
