What do you tink of this movie?

I watched this movie and the first thing i thought was that it seemed more like a pilot for a series than a movie. Did anyone else get that impression?

I really enjoyed the movie, and yes, I got the impression that it could be the pilot for a series given that Ellie now has this power to communicate with the deceased. Just FYI - the writers are my brother and his wife, and they sent us a copy of the movie from the Lifetime Network. I don't think it was intended to be a pilot, but the premise certainly gives it that potential

Cool. I would love to have writers (other than myself) in the family.

This movie is terrible, I added my comment to the movie page.

I don't think it was ever meant as pilot for a series, but rather it is trash to fill two hours on cable network. The supernatural aspect is simply there to tease the viewers of shows like Ghost Whisperer. It's a gimmick for the TV guide description and there is nothing else to it.

It wouldn't have made sense to think of making a series with this, with so many similar shows on already with the same premise. The series concept need to be 'designed in' from the start.

But there is nothing in this story, no character background, family, no hint of mythology, no cast ensemble. There is no 'meat'. It's simply a quick assembly of basic elements (lonely woman, murder, attractive man on the run with child), to create a low budget TV movie. For all we know, it might have been written by a computer software with a plot generator. We probably had a 50/50 chance that the murder was committed by a mistress or a the brother, and a 30% chance of getting a 'wacky girl friend' character.

In retrospect, it's amusing that the main character worked in a train museum.. this story is also on rails..

For exactly ALL the arguments you stated in your post is why I thought that it might be a pilot for a series or something.

There are a lot of shows like it out there right now and usually the Hollywood mentality is that if it sells - over sell it. They take ideas that have already been done and try to make a copy of it simply to make money.

The writing / directing style screamed TV Movie / Pilot. The whole movie would have been better if it was shorter IMO. It could have been a one hour episode and the whole sex scene could have been cut down. It wasn't really necessary to the plot and a bit confusing. It was meant as a Dream sequence / Flash Back but it seemed like it was in the present time. Instead they should have (as you said) written a scene that showed how they were together as a couple and how the death of her husband had affected her

It was too bad. I was looking forward to this movie to see Amy Acker again. I think she is a good actress and she should be holding out for better scripts that would showcase her talents.

You're right it was a pilot and it actually turned into a show. Although it was a few years before this came out. It's called the ghost whisperer and it stars Jennifer Love Hewitt.

reply

I agree. I just watched this film and couldn't believe how similar it is to the Ghost Whisperer, down to how much the star looks like Jennifer Love Hewitt. The story was very good, in my opinion.

reply

This was actually written several years before that show came out, but it was not produced for several years after the script had been written.

Not anymore because "Medium" starring Patricia Arquette had its series finale, and "Ghost Whisperer" which really didn't have a "series finale" ended as well; i loved both of these shows a lot maybe bc I love this concept of someone able to have a 'connection' of seeing dead ppl and helping them find out what happened (why they died) and the main character helping them to find the answers so they can cross over.... its now 2013, and we don't have ANY shows w/this concept/plot. Amy Acker would've been a perfect cast for this bc she is a great actress and has been on a show dealing w/supernatural - "Angel".. so too bad it wasn't a pilot bc I would've watched it for Amy's incredible acting abilities.

I just watched it on TV now, and only did so because Amy Acker was starring, who I have grown to like from "Dollhouse". Anyway, while everyone else was reminded of "Ghost Whisperer", I was reminded of a show that came out a few years before it called "Tru Calling".

Anyway, this movie was nothing special, and the only thing it had going for it was Amy Acker.

I totally forgot about "Tru Calling" that show was amazing, I wish it was never canceled Eliza Dushku was perfect for that role and I loved every episode; I think what messed that show was bringing on Jason Priestly (who i adore), but the storylines stared going diff directions.. still wish it was on though bc it did have potential - agendasuicide-1 thanks for thanks for reminding me of "Tru Calling" - can't believe i forgot bc it was MUST SEE TV show for me and my son.

I enjoyed this film, and I agree that it ended in such a manner that a series could be spun off of it.

I tink this may be the worst movie I have seen since Battlefield Earth. The horrible acting of the person playing the dead woman kept me laughing all the way through. The only reason I watched it in it's entirety, was because it was soooo bad it was funny.
