Why did they stop releasing this in Region 1?

I got the boxed sets of the first four series when they came out, (1 and 2 in the first, 3 and 4 in the second) when they came out but there's been nothing since November, 2011 while everything is out in region 2 through series 7.

I don't get this region thing anyway. Supposedly DVDs are coded so they can only be played in certain parts of the world because films are released at different times and they don't want the DVD versions to jump the gun. Also, some countries don't want DVDs they haven't censored or had a chance to ban to be available to people in their country. I don't know why the DVD industry would want to pander to such countries but neither explanation would have relevance to a TV show. If they were worried about DVDs being out before the show was shown in North America, don't release any DVDs until the show has been shown in every market that wants it. And all completed seasons have been shown by now. Season 7 is on You-tube, (but seasons 5-6 are not).

It's very frustrating.

You could buy a region free DVD player and buy the series/seasons that haven't come out on Region 1 from the British Amazon. I did such a thing and it's been one of the best purchases that I ever made. As for buying a region free DVD player you'll have to buy one from an online supplier because they are not sold at your local electronics store.
