Hate that horrible metallic loud double clank....

...that signifies the end of a scene. It's so annoying and put me off the programme as I sat waiting for it, wondering when it will come again.
Pity, as I thought it was an ok show.

Those of us "on the other side of the pond" kinda like that sound. According to Dick Wolf be was trying to mimic the sound of a jail door closing. Successful or not, it became a big part of L&O here.

Ah, that explains the noise then...interesting.
I wish they had just used the real sound of jail door closing instead.
I will have to give the show another go though, try and get the jail door image into my head when I hear that sound...it might not be so distracting that way.

I just heard Soft Cell's version of "Tainted Love" on the radio...it's got those "Doink Doink" noises in it! LOL

That "sound" is such an integral part of the show. It just would NOT be L&O without it.

That reminds me...I need to download that sound and put it on my computer to signal me when I open up a new mail message.

Or you could use it as a ring tone on your phone - well somebody might - but personally it annoys me too.

Its used in all law and order shows. its a classic. I'm glad the UK one uses it too.
