Aamir did it for the money

Shame on him for taking his fans for a ride.

Why do rich Indians only think about themselves?

I have seen Ghajini twice. First at a plush multiplex and the second time I went to a traditional single-screen cinema. In the end, everyone gave a standing ovation to Ghajini. That was the moment! Certain things are bigger than money. Aamir is known to visit cinemas in disguise to observe the audience. Moments like these are far bigger than awards or 5-star reviews.

He has made movies like Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, The Rising etc. for urban India. Can't he make a movie for the masses and lower class? Poor people also deserve to get entertained by A-list superstars. They work round the clock just to earn a two-figure daily wage. They get bullied by the rude rich class of India. If a movie like this can make them forget their worries, what's wrong with that?

If you can't cheer it for yourself. Cheer it for the pauper who cleans your floor.

well said Adam, agree 100% with u

Well, prince adam. please do not play your emotional card 'Cheer it for the pauper who cleans your floor'. It is well said, but out of context. A bad film remains a bad film. There is no reason why a good film should not provide the 'the pauper who cleans your floor' with appropriate entertainment. Film makers could get a better sense of film making.

Anyhow, if you watched the movie twice in the cinema, it speaks a lot about your choice and taste. I happened to slave through it. Please let me know when you watch it for the third time. Cheers.

If you don't understand the importance of that applause, the cheers, the tears of joy, that whistling you will never understand the purpose of Ghajini. It doesn't matter if Ghajini is a bad or a silly film because Ghajini made millions of Indians forget their worries in those 3 hours. Certain things are bigger than analysis/reviews/awards/money and Ghajini is one of them.

There is no reason why a good film should not provide the 'the pauper who cleans your floor' with appropriate entertainment.

'The pauper who cleans your floor' isn't interested in a Dil Chahta Hai, Slumdog Millionaire or a Rock On. He/she wants pure masala movies. India is a multi-cultured country. Everyone has a different taste. What good is an industry that caters to the tastes of urban society only?

The entire world is dancing to the tunes of Slumdog Millionaire - Jai Ho!

reply

This movie was really good, aamir khan was great. The director was brilliant, music was mind-blowing and the plot was diffrent. 100x better than the normall bollywood masala crap cinema.

reply

'tears of joy' from watching Ghajini? You are joking, right, Prince Adam?

And, well said, allsaurav.

reply

No, I am not. Some people had tears in their eyes when he gets his revenge and later dwells on to the fond memories of his girlfriend. What a sweet but tragic love story it was.

Ghajini is now available on DVD

reply

Dear Prince_Adam, thou art a truly disturbed re-incarnation of Robinhood.

reply

actually it made me pretty emotional too, although i usually dont get like that when watching movies and especially not if they are cheesy as this one was. (like for example the happy positive parts were often extremly cheesy, oh god..)

but it reminded me too much of stuff and that screwed me up in my head especially with that ending

the beginning was kinda weak tho, and i watched it just for my amusement about bad movies, but then it got really really good at times.. and although it had so many really weak parts it after all left a good impression on me and affected me kinda...

oh well, this is becoming a review instead of a reply...

It is not inspired by Christopher Nolan Memento. It copied complete
story. And also very bad copy. It looks like funny spoof of memento.
What a shame for Bollywood. People who are loving this movie are gone
mad. Christopher Nolan is director of original 100% Memento. Memento is
great movie you should watch. Memento 10/10 stars Ghajni 4/10 stars

reply

why say that??? what was wrong with Ghajini??? Just becacuse it wasn't typical artsy or political for Aamir?? Seriously this film was still 100% different than typical BW for sure this was no SRK film!!

I loved this movie and think Aamir did high class acting I have never enjoyed him this much even after Taare Zameen Par which I thought he couldn't top and I Loved so much everything in it, Ghajini beats it in my eyes!!

The only wrong with Ghajini is it's a copy paste of a hollywood movie. And again people will consider it as a remake and will spend their money to see it. Alas ! It was an awful remake as well ! Remaking of a Chris Nolan movie..lol ! If you have seen the hollywood one, then it's a disaster. If you haven't, then it's a superb movie, depends on you. So of course, it's logical to say that Aamir did it for money.

I am aware that cheesiness and cliches give you the tingles, prince. However several other human beings do not share such sophisticated tastes and several others are not aware how people take them for a ride. It is these people that I am talking about who deserve better. It is unfortunate to see Aamir take advantage of the fondness that people have for him in order to make money for himself. I am also aware that a wall would be more receptive to reason and more intellectually stimulating than you. Take care and regards.

Huh? Making movies is his profession. Most people expect payment for the work of their profession. Do you work for free? And remember this also: Aamir, even if he's not my favorite actor by far, made a lot of money for the movie company and its financiers. They got far more than Aamir did. For a commercial movie, that's the obligation of the star. They should make the investment worthwhile. So I'd call a responsible star. I STILL strongly maintain my position that Aamir cannot beat the performance of Surya in this story, but I'm not backstabbing Aamir for making money. Surya made money too, as he should have.

reply

They all do it for the money! it's their job!DUHHHH!

reply

Obviously he did this for money. But Aamir is one of the few actors who is always dedicated to the movie they work in. Like SRK and Hrithik. You wont see Aamir working in a movie and in the meantime he has 5 releases lined up in 5months and he forgets to promote two of those movies. ala Akki style..

Shame om Aamir? Are you freaking kidding me? The movies wasn't the best but much better then the latest crap droped by SRK, Askahy, H.Roshan and CO. Aamir Khan did a great job in this movie. The plot wasn't the best but STILL BETTER THEN latest bollywood crap movies made. I loved the songs on this one, but the acting was better in the tamil version with Surya Sivakumar. The cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran was amazing! The way the songs was filmed was CRAZY! Ánd lord praise A.R. Rahman for the songs.

reply

no kidding, Captain obvious.
Aamir is an actor....actors 'act' for money.

reply

A very good movie. The Khan's are bigger than ever !

Aamir did it to prove that whatever the reasons may be for doing the kind of films he does (Sarfarosh, Lagaan, Mangal Pandey, RDB, TZP), it is not because he can't do action-packed, melodramatic, mainstream 'Bollywoodish' cinema.
And how well does he prove it. He actually makes the film work. The film has no message. The film is,in fact, quite gory. But ask any Bollywood actor from any generation to do this role, and the film wouldn't have stood on the screens the next Friday.
That the film went to become the highest grosser in the history of Hindi cinema (till 3 Idiots broke that) proves that the majority of Indian audiences (who don't use the internet, leave alone post comments on IMDB) are looking for plain entertainment and not necessarily a message from their cinema. And this film provides entertainment in plenty.
This is definitely amongst Aamir's greatest performances. I would in fact stick my neck out to say that this is, arguably, his best performance. Cause it is entirely him and his performance that makes this film believable. The film is very high in emotional content and for the audiences to buy the protagonists' super-human power and to accept the gore, it needed a performance of the highest caliber.
I am not necessarily a fan of this genre. But I did shed a tear in that amazing climax.

reply

I thought this movie was awesome. And Aamir was amazing as always :)

reply

He's a great actor! If the movies had a bad plot, setting, etc. as long as you have a great actor like Aamir. the movie become awesome!

I cannot speak to Aamir Khan's motives, but as a fan (and recent convert) of his, I can say that I loved this movie and give it 10 out of 10. I don't feel taken for a ride; I thought he was brilliant, as usual (Although, so far, I have seen only Three Idiots, Like Stars on Earth, and this). People are saying that the guy who did the 2005 version of this was even better, so I look forward to the time I can see that version, as well. But I can say that there are fans of Aamir Khan who think that this movie was very well done (and worth the three hours, one of the very few movies that is worth three hours), even though it puts together just about every genre you can think of, and even though I normally hate violence. I am going to watch it again, and introduce a friend of mine to it (he, in fact, introduced me to Aamir Khan and the other two movies, so I am returning a favour;-)
