Heartbeats

Hi

I'm surprised nobody has noticed it.. This movie was 'biutiful', even though sometimes I thought it was more of a documentary-type than a movie. For example, that scene when Uxbal and his daughter were hugging each other in the bathroom and she asks him what's wrong with him. They were hugging each other so hard you could hear their heartbeat. I had goosebumps and thought it added such a powerful meaning to that scene, hopefully they didn't decide to cut the sound of it.

I assume we can hear their heartbeat because they wore little microphones under their clothes, there are other scenes where an actor touches his chest and you can clearly hear a Bounce/Bump, just like when you tap on a micro to do the check sound...

Anyway, really good movie I give it a 7/10. I liked 21 grams better, but that's just my opinion. I'm planning on watching Amores Perros, hope it'll be as good as those two!

That scene makes me cry every time. The look on both their faces, and the way he tells her to not forget his face. The heartbeat places you inside that moment; it all is really as fragile as that rhythm, everything comes down to that rhythm. It's quite amazing when you just stop and feel your own heartbeat sometimes, makes you not take so much for granted.

In my opinion, the hearbeats were added to that scene to make it more powerful. The sound of the heartbeat is too strong and clear to be emitted by the microphones of the actors. But that's just my opinion. I did notice them as well and find this scene absolutely moving and touching.

You would think, and that would be perfectly easy to do without compromising the integrity of the scene, but what I noticed most was how it sounded like they were wearing lav mics (which rustle like hell when you do something like hug). And I thought to myself "Who sound mixed this and didn't take out the lav channels for this?" The heartbeats sounded added on either way, so it didn't really seem worthwhile.
