Who the hell is Je-R-maine?

reply

Guy from Flight of the Conchords. The one with the glasses. Check that show out, it's really good.

(I think they were referring to his name being spelled Jemaine, not Jermaine. An easy mistake to make ;-))

reply

yeah, it's spelled J-E-M-A-I-N-E
fans hate it when you mispell his name.

reply

It's true - we do. =D

reply

Maybe he hates it too though I'm sure he's used to it. It's just weird when someone claims to be a fan but they can't even get his name right.
Me and you, you and me, freakiocity

reply

That is so illogical. Just because someone does not know how to spell someone's name does not mean your are not a fan. How presumptuous is that, additionally you have absolutely NO way to verify this. I would beg you to reconsider your preconceived notions, and consider being a bit more rational.

reply

You're absolutely correct rhino!

reply

Owned. It's always the people who can't spell that get defensive about it.

reply

I love Jermaine Jackson as well!

Wait. Where am I?

LOL that made my day with the overly dramatic reply.

Yah, this mistake is easily made so it's not that big of a deal.

HE ROCKS 8D

reply

I like the spelling of Shawn. Also, it's spelled "You're." You're so obviously not a fan of grammar.

You know, Wobbles...I'm kinda mad at you.

reply

You know, to be completely fair, spelling the same name wrong (I think we could all agree that at least phonetically SHAWN and SEAN are the same name) is a lot different then what this person did.

Adding an "r" to "Jemaine" makes it an entirely different word. It's like if you were to add a "n" to "Bret" to make it "Brent." There are people named Bret, and there are people named Brent. They are named differently so when you speak their names it will sound different.

In essence, by adding the "r", this person isn't guilty of simply mispelling some one's name (for example spelling it Jemane), but they have rather called him a name that does not belong to him.

I can't say this all bothers me too much, but I can definitely understand a real Jemaine Clement fan getting annoyed at some "fan" that doesn't actually know his name.

The comedic timing of the first three posts in this thread are GENIUS! You can't make up timing like that. It's the stuff Abbott and Costello routines were made of.

reply

Who cares? The main thing is that Jermaine is awesome!

"Do you really think it's cool to hit the sauce with a bun in the oven?"

reply

original_chikinboy got it exactly right. It's not about the spelling but the pronunciation. Also they did talk about this type of thing in FOTC when the lady Brahbrah/barbara was around.

reply

Doesn't Shawn spell his name HBK!, You're not a fan.

"I ain't afraid to try, I fail as good as anybody else."

reply

Lord all mighty, is this what the internet was invented for? having inane conversations about an actor's name spelling? Yeah yeah, I know, I can't talk, I am contributing to the forum so I am as bad as the rest of ya....I mistakenly thought there might be some nice talk about Jemaine Clement in this thread...How niave

reply

Too true.

Anyway, did anybody else think that Jemaine sounded like Tim Curry in this movie?

reply

^ No. Tim sounds like Jemaine.

reply

Finally, someone actually talking about the movie and not a wanna-be English Teacher war.
I just watched 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea last night and thought Jemaine's portrayal of Chevalier (sorry I'm not going to look it up to make sure I spelled it right) was very, very similar to James Mason (Captain Nemo). His manner, the way he talked, the beard. Of course James Mason didn't have a non-functioning bluetooth earpiece.

reply

Yeah, I think Jermaine Jackson is cool musician, too, but he is not in this movie. That IS who your are referring to, of course. And Jemaine Clement is an excellent actor - made this movie a classic.

reply

lol, I love how off track this thread got the moment the OP misspelt his name
