I lived in kp for a few years. Long Island has two locations with a Mary Hatchet legend surrounding them. KP definitely isn't one of them though. You can read up on it LIoddities if you're interested. It's under folklore.

I live not far from Kings Park and i've been to the Psych ward a couple times with my friends, Place is scary and i thought i've heard things a couple of times. Cops often guard the place and i heard a rumor there going to take it down and build over it. As for the stories of mary hatchett i've heard a few as of late that she was a girl who lived in Hewlett, NY i think and killed her family and she was sent to kings park psychiatric ward where she escaped supposedly. Long Island has alot of mary ghosts and the one im most familiar with is of Mary of Sweet Hollow road in melville. Who was killed on the road and at night you can see her ghost.

I live in Kings Park and I go to kppc like every week basically. I haven't really seen anything yet so far though even though I know of one haunted building that I'm waiting to go into. As far as the Mary Hatchet legend I believe it. My mother worked at kppc her whole life and she said it's true. But so far I haven't seen anything too skeptical yet in the buildings but I hope to see something scary soon! Check out my youtube page where I'm going to be putting up some new videos of kppc real soon! http://www.youtube.com/user/jkproduktions7?feature=mhum

I am from Massapequa, Long island and I can assure you that there ARE legends, you must have niot heard them. Ive been upt o sweet hollow road where her house was said to be abd where she walks at night. Do a quick google and find locations, most are up by the syosset area. Also, i believe they used kings park (I dont know if her being there is part of the legend, I never heard that part) just bc its the scariest asyluma around.

Hey Chippers,

I use to work at Pilgrim which being from Suffolk County you know is the real Kings Park Psyc Center. There were a least 3 or 4 real stories about different patients like the one they used in this story. Even with Pilgrim open today, they have patients who walk out regularly and commit crimes because there are only about a dozen patients that live there that aren't required by law to be there under security supervision.
