'100 things i learned from The Colony'

Ha ha, i can't believe i'm making this topic to any movie :D The film started good, but my oh my the scrip was full of cliche, what a disappointment...

1. You ALWAYS wake up from a bad dream sitting up in your bed.

2. You drop your weapon just after beating your enemy unconscios.

3. Pistol has unlimited amount of ammo. It's true, look up every other movie.

4. Crossing a dangerous bridge is safer for everybody at once, the tighter the pack, the better!

5. You never ever explain what you saw to others, thou shall speak in riddles and delay vital intel.

... and the list goes on ...

6. When you and your friends escape from a panic room, somehow they will disappear and you will have to fight the final boss alone.

reply

7)When you are afraid for mutiny don't take the risky guy with you but let him take over.

8)In cold conditions rabbits loose the reproductive desire but not humans and soy pellets are rabbit viagra.

reply

9. When you become canibal, you also stop speaking any modern language and start howling and growling. It's sort of package deal.
10. Cannibals do parkour.

I can understand lack of language skills if a person has lived in wild since childhood. So they never had the chance to learn any human language. But I think cannibals in this movie are regular people who started eating other people due to lack of food. Right?
Eating humans doesn't make anyone forget all their social skills. There have been news of cannibals living in modern society among normal people with normal jobs.

reply

There is precedent that after certain time of isolation peopl forget how to speak. if they never spoke and were driven mad by hunger they may just have that effect.

I wish there was a like button on imdb. I really wanted to 'like' your 10.
I used to do that with my younger brothers when we were kids on the farm with a rock quarry on our back 40. Of course that was in the 1950s and it wasn't called 'parkour' then, but I trust you didn't actually think it was a 'sport' invented by city kids in the 2000's, did you? :)

soy pellets were the protein to keep the rabbit babies from being born dead. Wouldn't have helped them be interested in reproducing, unless, of course, they were sick from lack of protein and felt better. Course, there would be more chance if there was a boy bunny in the cage too....

LOL. Good one.

It wasn't a terrible movie, I've seen far worse, many that I've not even finished. I liked it, LF is one of my favorite actors in these types of movies, hence Event Horizon. The kid was pretty good. Yea it contained all the idiotic scenarios and worse case outcomes, but whatever it was entertaining.

reply

yeah, Event Horizon is one of my favourites too. some hardcore sci-fi and horror well blended together!

«litmus test movie, if you actually liked it, you're an utter moron.»

Please don't do that without warning. I nearly choked to death with laughter reading your comment.

reply

Haha, sorry about that, Jorge.

Look, the movie was a blatant ripoff of The Thing(even riffing that signature bass line) and Ghosts of Mars, it started out okay enough, but not only brought nothing new to the genre, was just plain boring and had TERRIBLE lazy writing.

BornIntoThis:

blatant ripoff of The Thing

Which part? The shapeshifting alien? The all male cast?

I guess it must be the fact they both have snow that makes this one a ripoff.

reply

You seem pretty stupid, so I'll type slowly.

1) Isolated outpost in an icebound environment.

2) The almost note for note bass line that is The Thing's signature.

3) Likeable mechanic-type guy

4) Trigger happy authority guy

5) Sense of paranoia and distrust amongst the survivors.

Individually, these aren't so bad, but combined in a horror story, yeah, ripoff. On top of everything else, it was *beep*

reply

Pretty flimsy comparisons.

You must think 99% of all movies are blatant ripoffs of other movies.

reply

And you must think trash ripoffs are original masterpieces.

Good luck with having no taste.

reply

Hey, how does it feel to always be the smartest person in the room?

Can't stand dickholes like this.

reply

Hi, no, this film was nothing like The Thing. The Thing was about a group of scientists plagued by an alien escaped from a block of ice. It was psychological and action-packed.

This film was about a bunch of survivors of a frozen Earth trying to communicate with other colonies. The go out looking for a distress call and encounter cannibals.

You insult others, but you are so wrong. Like, have you only seen five movies or something?

You have absolutely no idea what "comparison" means.

reply

It was a *beep* done mish mash of both The Thing and Ghosts of Mars. I never said it was a direct scene-for-scene ripoff. It just stole major elements of both without bringing anything new to the table. Or entertaining.

When I see a shot of an isolated frozen-wasteland outpost and hear the bass line from The Thing, yeah, good things are not about to happen.

reply

Well that isn’t the same as being a blatant ripoff. But what you say is correct, this film was ridiculous and I guess yeah, tried to be like The Thing, but failed. Peace.

reply

Weak comparison. All i can connect is snow, isolation, and sci-fi horror elements.

reply

I guess you missed the note for note ripoff of the famous The Thing bass line at the beginning of this garbage movie.

That's cool, keep defending it.

reply

It is so not like the thing. It didn't even have the same vibe. ONE of the main themes of the movie is corrupt leadership during horrible times. That set the tone of the movie with many other subplot that the thing did not have. This movie had too many characters in it so It didn't even have the feeling of isolation like the thing.

reply

Themes? This movie had themes? The only theme it had is that it was crap. Crap isn't a theme, this movie was a coalescence of suck.

Did you work on this movie or something? Stop wasting energy defending this piece of *beep*

reply

Why do you call everyone "stupid" who doesn't agree with you or question what you mean. Aren't you mature enough to have a normal conversation?

reply

How did it ripoff the Thing? Simply because it was in snow?

reply

This is like a litmus test movie, if you actually liked it, you're an utter moron.

Oh, really? Well, excuse me.
