Doctors

I thought the most interesting aspect of this series is that it showed how protected doctors are and how the medical board seemed to have no interest in policing themselves.

I mean how much evidence did the FBI need to take Cleggett down??? They had tens of thousands of scripts of the "holy trinity" of drugs, video of people hanging out at her office for days during odd hours, evidence showing she saw on average 76 people a day, testimony to show she was paying people with scripts as cash, and her unusual bank recs. Somehow all of this wasn't enough to take her down and this is just one doctor who is blatantly and carelessly running a pill mill. Just think of how many other doctors were/are out there cashing in and flying under the radar because they are being just a little bit careful and smart about their illegal operation?

Same thing with the medical board. How many people had to make complaints or evidence shown before they even started to look at her.

Doctors like Cleggett were the street dealers for big pharma. Purdue was essentially a drug cartel that abused the trust and reputation of medical science to traffic opiods for profit.

Watch Painkillers on Netflix, where a US Attorney sees this happening but struggles to find a crime to charge.
