My take on this film (Contains Spoilers)

Wow, is just where I'm going to start off. Overall not too bad of a movie, even though most of it upset me. The main reason that I was upset during this movie was to see how weak minded these characters were. I get the whole idea of being a child trying to fit in with the crowd, but come on. It's not like these were pre-teens, these were young adults, almost 18 years old.

Leibnitz (the one with the long hair) tried so hard to be a part of a group were he was treated like crap because he would not contribute to an attempted rape. Then after the fact when they tortured him the first time he still remained loyal. To make it even worse he never tried to listen to reason even when Stürmer was trying to save him. It doesn't just stop there, they almost drown him in a barrel of water and yet he still stays loyal until he finally snaps and almost kills one of the professors. I feel like in a way Leibnitz got what he deserved. Not to sound uncompassionate about his situation, but he should have know better. The only reason why I say this movie wasn't a total bomb was the fact I really felt bad for him because he was so dumb.

Then you have Stürmer who is the coward through and through. When he he had the chance to blow the whistle and stop any further harm to Leibnitz he chicken out, just like during the attempted rape scene. His decisions in the movie where not that of a person his age. However he does come around in the end to stand up for Leibnitz at the end, but it was too late.

This brings me to Bogatsch and Dyrbusch. These two bullies just took the cake for me. Considering that most bullies aren't that smart they seemed more intelligent than the rest of the cast. It was almost laughable at which lengths they would go to keep their little club together.

In the end the only person that grew was Stürmer, he was the only one that actually acted as an adult. Leibnitz ended up losing his mind. Bogatsch and Dyrbusch were basically left to do as the pleased as the film makers left this hanging. Also they never let you know if the professor lived. I can see that when the paramedics were working on him he just looked unconscious. All in all I give it a 5 1/2 out of 10.

It was my impression that Leibnitz enjoyed the treatment from the two bullies. Even one of the bullies mentioned toward the end of the movie to the main character something that gave me this impression. He asks, "Why, Konstantin, do people who can have anything go to a dominatrix to be flogged with a cat-o'-nine-tails?" They were talking about Leibnitz at the time.

I was expecting Leibnitz to announce this desire, but he never did. So maybe I am wrong, but maybe this line was supposed to fill in those blanks. Who knows.
