Possible contender for Palme d'or or other prestigious awards?

Especially since it may be one of Costa-Gavras last films...

Costa-Gavras was looking very robust at a Q&A session last weekend after the creening of the film at New York's IFC Center. I think he could be making films well into his 80's if he wants to keep working.

It's the first Gavra's (part) greek production. So I hoped Greece could get a Best Foreign Picture Oscar nom after a lot of years. The thing is that doesn't seem possible for netx year , because typically the last Thessaloniki Film Festival's winner film qualifies for the race.It hasn't competed this year,so it's out of the race this year.As for the next,it;s out of time limits Academy stes.Unless, a special commitee decides to qualify against all odds.I hope, because this year's winner (Without-the title is in English!)looks stupid as usual...(although nice things have been said for the art direction/cinematography).

The other thing that could affect an Oscar nomination for this film is that it is multi-lingual. There isn't much Greek spoken in the film at all. As I recall, the Academy has some rule that a film has to have at least a certain percentage of the dialogue in the language of the country that submits it. I think the language that was used the most in this film was French, so unless the French select it, it may have a difficult time scoring a nomination.
