I didn't like the ending.

The main reason i tuned into this movie is to see Marlee Matlin (I'm a fan of her character on the L word, and she seems like a cool person) I enjoyed the movie, but endings such as these really get to me! I was left not knowing what happened to the little boy(adam, i think it was)..and i was really interested in seeing if they were going to go through with the implant or not.

yes thats what I thought. I was wonder about this boy too. but I don't think the movie want to show us what happened to the boy if he get that ci. but its was on based on the decision they have made. In my option, I don't care whatever that happens to that little boy. I think they have make a good point. I don't think its good idea if they will tell if Adam have ci because if they did, people would follow theirs. Its tell us to choose our decision. The parents or the deaf child have to choose what they want. not Adam or his parents' want.

(sorry about my english)

i thought it droped off to suddenly.
but i don't think the point was whether he got the implant or not, but what a controversial (sorry spelling) thing the ci is, and what it can do to a family.

i think they tried to make both sides understanding but the dad did seem to come off like a jerk doing things behined the moms back

my opinion: if i was with a deaf person and if our child was born deaf or went deaf early, i would let the child GROW UP and make HIS OWN DECISION. i don't care if it has better results when they are younger.

if i was with a hearing person and had a deaf child, i don't know what i would do. i understand some parents decicion, but i've studied asl and am very supportive of the deaf, and love to sign.

And our brains have incredible plasticity, so they definitely could handle a CI later in life, but it would be much easier if they had heard sound before, so adaptation went more quickly.

I got alot from this movie. I thought they would not resolve the implant question during the story because the judge said a couple of times during the hearing that the court was not going to decide the issue on the implant. I took that as foreshadowing that the outcome on that would not be revealed. The story was told in the context of that court hearing.

I think you will love this!

It did seem that the ending left things unsaid, but, perhaps it was because the topic is so controversial, that neither ending would have been satisfactory for at least one part of the audience...

However, during the court testimony, it was shown that the surgery has been found not to benefit everyone, so, that's something else to consider...

Besides, any surgery that generates dizziness (as this surgery likely does for a period of time afterwards) is not a good solution - at least in my opinion...

Unfortunately, many types of hearing loss do include dizziness, and, as we all know, being dizzy is about as unpleasant as anything we can experience...

That was my initial reaction, but now I think they were right to end as they did. The purpose of this movie was to depict both sides of the CI debate respectfully and accurately. If at the end they made one choice or the other, that would have implied that was the "right" or "better" choice, and that was not the message they wanted to end with.

I really enjoyed the movie and the job that all the actors, directors, and sound editors did. But I agree that the ending was horrible. I understood the struggles and problems that the CI discussions led to but really wanted an ending that showed their decision. Hopefully the decision made as a family, including their sons opinion.
