Do any of you Polanski haters realize...

that the victim has forgiven him? If you really are on her side then you would accept that. If not then your vendetta is not about justice for the victim, but, about your own justice for something that really has nothing at all to do with you.

Did you just try to defend a pedophile maniac?

reply

Idiot...STFU. How the f#@* is he a "maniac"?? Charles Manson is a true maniac..NOT Roman Polanski.

We live in a misandrist society where a girl's own sense of victimhood has no merit. If the feminist gender-biased laws say she is a victim, she must place herself into that horrible space and suffer according to the feminist politics. She is not allowed to not be a victim. She must let the feminists decide for her whether she is a victim or not. If she does not feel guilt nor pain from the incident, she must bring herself to feeling guilt and pain because the feminists demand it. She is not allowed to walk away unscathed because it would violate the many years of feminist propaganda that portrays statutory rape as the most heinous crime. She must not be allowed to become the exception.

I think a lot of dumb, weak, insecure men suffer from the Galahad Complex and need to shout it out loud to make themselves feel worthy. It is about defending her regardless, to try to make themselves feel like men.

reply

to Sweiland it is the state which prosecutes a crime not the victim. A person should not be allowed to commit a sex offense then run off and receive immunity because they are lucky enough to have a resilient victim. If anyone else did what Polanski did then they would have gone to prison, being a millionaire and having powerful Hollywood friends should not get him off the hook. Imprisonment is about punishment, deterrence, retribution and condemnation of the crime not solely about the victims wishes.

to smeech 61 the victim never said she wasn't hurt by what happened. She said that she was frightened, she wanted to cry, he had sex with her against her will, that he took her innocence, that he was a creep and that he did a terrible thing. She is over it now but that doesn't mean he should get away with it. Its not about defending her its about not condoning sex crimes and special treatment for the rich and famous.

No ones saying he took her virginity she said he took her innocence. Lots of silly kids have sex that doesn't mean they aren't children or don't have any innocence. I think she knows a bit more about how innocent she was or wasn't before and after the crime than any of us do.

reply

the victim has forgiven him?

Well thats ok then, as long as the victim has forgiven the offender then they sould go free right?
Lots of Christian folk in USA who would say they had forgiven their attackers, robbers, theives etc does this mean we should let them out regardless of their crime or time they have spent incarcerated. Its not just about justice for the victim to make them feel better its about safeguarding other members of society

What about the public right to have wanted to keep people like Polanski away from their children!

"Its just a ride"

THANK YOU!! jurassicmarc

Oh, god-yes, the children! We must protect the children from this depraved Polako evil Jew dwarf! If he's free, think of all the children he will hunt down and rape next!

... jurassicmarc, take a breath and learn a few facts before you become any more of a reactionary, mindless, moralistic joke.

eff him. you are SICK to try to wave away what he did because that little girl now wants to put it behind her because of all the pain its caused her in the first place.

polanski is a creep who should be executed for what he did to that little girl.

reply

WOW! Skip the judge and jury and go right to the executioner, eh? I sure wouldn't want to live in your country where people do not get a fair trial.

Along with the so-called controversy over a recent Family Guy episode in which the controversial TV show actually showed more compassion for persons with Down Syndrome than Sarah Palin herself (and proved she will use any excuse to act like a victim--and a big f--king idiot--to the media), this week has been really dismaying for me, because it proves that people clearly do not search for the facts and those on both sides of an issue will duke it out without even questioning the real victims of the issue; the only thing that people really know, superficially at least, about Roman Polanski and the events which occurred in 1977 is that he had sex with a 13-year-old girl, and along with the blurry lines of whether or not it was consensual or the Quaaludes and champagne she may have consumed, the fact remains that people automatically--and continue to do so--associated Polanski's name with rape (these are probably the same people who think Woody Allen married his adopted step-daughter). And that's the sad power that the media has over people--it brands an event into our memory without bothering to follow up on these stories, to see how its change has evolved with our changing times.

The most damning thing that everyone who unbelievably brands Polanski as a monster doesn't even stop and think for a second about the most important person through this whole ordeal: Samantha Geimer, who at the age of 13 completely lost her innocence, not by Polanski so much as the media, and having her anonymity lost forever, and it wasn't long before the press got a hold of her name when she and her lawyers tried so hard to keep her anonymous. And because of a terrible judge who was hungry for attention, lured Polanski with a plea bargain which apparently would've only received probation but who clearly wanted to ensnare Polanski for prison time. It is for this reason why Polanski fled the US, not because he was a leach and wanted to avoid paying for his crime and rape more girls in Europe as some might have thought.

In 1997, Geimer forgave Polanski and has asked the LAPD to drop the charges against him. She also appeared in this documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired saying that she was as much a victim of the legal proceedings, and that the judge only cared for his own image rather than her rights. Today she has the air of a woman who just wants to put this behind her, that it's all water under the bridge and she's turned out to be a fairly normal, healthy woman (unless I'm wrong, I believe that now she's married and has children, which implies someone who has matured into a person with healthy sexual, emotional and mental attitudes).

Before anyone brands me as the "P" word, I want to say that I'm 20 years old, I'm a film lover and I'm a female. I think Polanski made a bad mistake in seducing Geimer, I don't think Polanski's subsequent films and Oscar win makes up for what he did because I believe that a person's profession or art and their personal lives and beliefs are two separate things and should not be confused, unless one considers how life and beliefs work their way into art. I know that being a 13-year-old girl makes you more vulnerable because of your lack of self-knowledge, and I think Geimer was at least partially lead on by Polanski and probably didn't know how to say "no." But I think Polanski has had a very hard life especially after the unspeakable murder of his wife Sharon Tate, I think that the cultural clashes of his European values towards sexuality combined with the US's history of xenophobia and more uptight sexual values made his case much more sensational than it perhaps should've been. I believe that he should've been given a punishment for what he'd done, but considering the psychiatric evaluation which said jail time wasn't recommended and given Polanski's own personal history which I earlier mentioned, I also understand that I'm not the expert at this.

Everyone who boycotts Polanski or who brands him as a monster is just wasting their breath and the direction of their hatred. Pick on Charles Manson, why don't you. Pick on someone who has exercised a slanted view of authority to a horrifying degree, to the point of evil, and leave Polanski alone.

Love, love will tear us apart...again...

Discrimination equates to tolerance? LOL! Not in this world.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRRZf3dAU7M It's time to believe.

reply

No.

an adult man in a position of authority having sex with a 13 year old girl -- nevermind having to drug her and get her drunk in order to do it -- is NEVER permissible.

Being a baby during the holocaust is no excuse.

His wife being murdered is no excuse (especially since this cad was being unfaithful during the time period Sharon was pregnant up to and after her murder).

Being a great artist is no excuse.

He is PONDSCUM. There is no layer of hell too deep to bury Polanski under.

You are pond scum for making excuses for that filth -- and then trying to drag Family Guy into it. Sarah Palin is a whole nother universe of stupidity; it's a transparent game to try to equate what happened between Palin and Family Guy with what happened with Polanski the Pedophile.

I went to see a showing in L.A. of Potop (1974)since I had read Henryk Sienkiewicz classic comic renditions of "With Fire and Sword" and "The Deluge" (as well as seen the Quo Vadis version with Deborah Kerr and Robert Taylor in Galveston when the nuns at St. Mary's took us to see Legion of Decency approved films about the Christians versus the persecution under Nero, Tiberius, et al [dull]). At the premiere in L.A., who showed up but a little munchkin with a voluptuous consort who towered over him. He demonstrated to his flunkeys or camp-followers how to hack and disembowel with an imaginary broadsword, flinging himself unembarrassedly about while his "date" was left to her own devices, looking beautifully lost. He seemed the epitome of narcissism and a looker-on made a feeble joke to the effect that [he wouldn't] "touch him with a ten-foot pole (Pole...Polack, Poleax...?)...".

The rape that occurred in 1977 seemed in line with his brand of sexual adventurism and I recall people speculating what would happen to him sexually in prison at the hands of male predators.

I can't comprehend his victim's sense of letting bygones be bygones. He was supposed to pay her damages for her ordeal but has not paid a penny even though he is not in a state of penury or was ever subsequently. He apparently considered her a "freebie"....

Ruby you are not a parent I take it? 20 years old and you think a tragedy in someones past allows them to commit crimes, that is so depressing. What do I need to happen in my past to allow me to break the laws? Manson is in prison. Leave RP alone???? Ruby if I kill someone how long do I have to be on the run before I can come back and say it was a long time ago and the family forgave me?
Do I have to win an Oscar to gain my freedom?

Please let me know when you have a daughter I will send Polanski over to meet her.
