Where have I seen the detective before?

The mid-fiftyish detective with grey hair. Was it the O.J. trial? Or was he on cocain cowboys? Anybody know?

The detective you're referring to is Phil Van Atter Homicide Detective partnered with Detective Tom Lange - part of the group of four (4) which included Mark Fuhrman that went to OJ Simpson's House after the murder discovery at Bundy.

Are you talking about the former L.A. district attorney, Gil Garcetti? He was all over the O.J. Simpson trial, and he's straight out of central casting. He does photography now:

OJ Simpson and the Wonderland trials (John Holmes). Both were very high profile cases. The second was also the first crime scene in which a videotaped crime scene and is on YouTube for that reason.
