Short Film

There should be more interest in short film. It is a wonderful form that differs greatly from the feature, but doesn't suffer for that, instead it opens up an entire world of possibilities that aren't available to the feature. I feel like this great form is being forgotten.

I am of the mind that short films should be shown in big movie theatres, played before the features sort of as a primer.

I definitely have to agree. I am of the disposition that most films nowadays are just full of filler and lack real substance. If you tried to do that in a short film you'd never be able to get away with it.

Check out www.collegehumor.com or youtube.com or Googlevideo or stickdeath.com or newgrounds.com or funnyordie.com or pretty much the whole internet. Short movies are absolutely the most popular entertainment medium on Earth, I seriously doubt they could get any more popular.

They may be well-watched online but they certainly aren't discussed in media circles the way feature films are.

I remember people thinking short films may take off as one of the WWW's big interests. AtomFilms and other companies were lining up big bucks to be online movie studios. Didn't really pan out that way.

Why is this listed as 2008? I first saw this last year.

Well you want to have your cake and judge it too. You either have lots of choices, and therefor spread the wealth, alot. Or you have a few big productions gobbling up the money. And why would someone want to pay as much for a 10 minute movie as a 3 hour movie? Just because exploitation of short films didn't pan out for corporations doesn't lend a wad of spit to the "art" and its popularity. What is a media circle? People that judge art for the 'rest' of us? What a load of hog wash this whole premise is.

It's "must have", "should have", "could have", and "would have". For God's sake there's no "of".
