What other bands need a movie?

After having watched the film and listening to more of the music (as a fan of metal, mind you) I cannot believe I skipped over these guys! They definitely deserve some type of following at least on the level of say....Accept, Saxon or Manowar, if not larger.

And now to my question: What bands could benefit from having a movie made about them? Some bands are fairly big as is, but could get blown into the stratosphere with a documentary as popular as this one. I doubt that most of them would be as sympathetic and touching, but here is a short list I compiled:

-Annihilator (these guys are Canadian too. How they fell under the radar is anyone's guess.)
-Motorhead (Okay, a huge name in metal, but come on...who wouldn't want to watch a documentary thats follows Lemmy?)
-Overkill (My favorite band ever. They already technically have one documentary about them called "Born in the Basement" and another short one that came with a concert DVD. But they're a thrash band that has been around since at least 1980, and has released 14-15 albums that are all thrash and all sound like Overkill)
-Testament (Many people have said that if they could configure the top 4 thrash bands (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax) they would remove Anthrax and replace them with Testament.)
-Venom (Big name in metal, but essentially responsible for starting black metal. Also deeply responsible for thrash and death metal. They too have been around 30 plus years.)

Many bands could have a movie made about them, but few would be as personal as Anvil's.

SWERVEDRIVER I second that one of the most underated bands of all time !!

Pulse Ultra - a cracking metal band from the short-lived, mainstream nu-metal era. Whilst they never experienced the brainless success of Limp Bizkit, they were musically equal to the likes of Linkin Park and Papa Roach, but unlike the latter, less pop-emo in their lyrics. Despite an album of great/good songs they split after the first album and went their separate ways.

Their only commercial success was to have 'Build Your Cages' featured in Need For Speed Hot Pursuit II in 2002. The documentary could also track down the Buzzhorn, who were on the same label and had 'Ordinary' on the same game soundtrack. They were a good complement to each other and it's a shame they didn't make it either.

The Wildhearts

That was my 1st thought too.

You'd need at least a trilogy to tell their whole story though.

Looked in on this question and the first two posters gave my first two answers.... Venom and the Wildhearts.

Both would make shatteringly good films. I'd say Ginger would want to play himself. I think Cronos would have to.

There's Anvil,

Hey, if anybody is looking to do a documentary on a writer that hasn't achieved success I'm available!

Ever seen "Stone Reader"? That's about a writer who didn't make it, until the documentary filmmaker who discovered Steven Dow Mossman's book "Stones of Summer" started making that film.

I think Milli Vanilli needs a movie. j/k I'm very aware that their "Behind the Music" was supposed to be a one-time thing, and turned into an institution of sorts.

I can't really think of a band for a documentary. Your choices are very good. Persoanlly, I would rather see a movie about the mid-80's hard rock/heavy metal scene in Chicago. A lot of great bands that got very little reconigtion. Holland, Diamond Rexx, Slaughter Xstroes, Joker, Mata Hari, the Gruesomes, Sgt Roxx, Tyrants Reign just to name a few.

King's X

It would be similar to the Anvil story where they had some fame, it didn't last but they are still around putting out great music and struggling with day jobs... etc.

reply

King Diamond of course.
The man played soccer on the seventies, joined rock/proto-metal bands in the late seventies and started Mercyful fate in early 80's just to foud his own band in 85 and has done excellent imaginative music ever since. even each of his albums stories would give great stories.

April Wine
They were big in the 70's and 80's, their songs still get played a lot on the radio today, but they seemed so overlooked when they got back together in the 90's. Even today seeing as how they played a free show at the PNE back in august. Although it was packed for a small venue.

I would love to see a documentary on April Wine! They were one of the hardest-working bands in the '70s and '80s, but you don't hear much about them anymore.

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing a general documentary about the Canadian rock scene from that era, including April Wine, Chilliwack, Trooper, Doucette, Rough Trade. And unlike this film, I'd like it to focus on the music rather than the personalities.

A strange band from the '70s that deserves a documentary: White Witch, who released a couple albums on the Capricorn label that were a mix of metal, psychedelia, pop and blues.

two bands that really come to mind is Master and Controlled Bleeding

either one would be a very interesting watch
