Allright c'mon Haters answer me this

Why do you all hate this show so much?
And don't give me stupid answers like:
"Just Because"
or
"It's a rip off of Buffy/Charmed/Supernatural/Insert_Another_Supernatural_Show_here"
'Cause to be honest they're all a minor rip off of one another
Charmed with the movie The Craft
Buffy with the character Van Helsing in Dracula
I haven't exactly watched Supernatural so can't say anything about it yet.
So go on ramble on but don't give me them stupid replies or bitch about Rupert's accent YES IT'S STUPID HE NEEDED A VOICE COACH WE GET IT >.<
Go on dare you

There are probably people out there who can write more insightful reasons that I.

However what I disliked about the show was firstly - the turgid storylines, on the few occassions you think they are going somewhere, it turns out to be a dead cat bounce.

Secondly - the casting of Christian Cooke in a suppossed main role (although he was soo upstaged by supporting cast members). He was uncharasmatic in the extreme and seemed to be there only to appeal to the young teenage girls or old gay men.

Thirdly - it tried to be grand. Rather than carefully targetted story and character developments - it tried to hard - and in the end it just reinforced how turgid the whole thing was.

The thing is I DO agree with what the both of you are saying it was very poorly written as was the casting. And as "surferdudea904" said "you think they are going somewhere, it turns out to be a dead cat bounce"
The thing was no-one (except you two) were giving proper reasons as to why they hated it and I was just curious to see if people actually had a reason or were they just defending their old favourite shows.
I wasn't being defensive at all about it it was just everyone was on the "It's copying insert show here" or "his accent is terrible" band wagon and it annoyed me.
I myself thought it has it's problems but if it gets the chance to do a second series it could fix it's problems and hopefully become a good show.

The writing is terrible, the acting is terrible and I've seen better CGI in 1960's Star Trek.

I thought it was pretty funny. I haven't watched any of the other shows so no negative or positive comparisons. I thought Glenister was working on American accent because it probably was one reason he chose not to do the US Life on Mars - which only had one season, anyway, though I did enjoy the nod of calling their local Glenister's. Never heard of Starlight Mints before, have a CD now because I loved Demons opening song - which set the tone for the show admirably. Glenister's deep south accent for someone from Harrisburg PA was hilarious (to an American, anyway) but I think he meant it that way as a shot at all the accent critics. Sorry it won't be back because you guys have had massive TV-cide this year and there's nothing very promising on the horizon.

i missed it on itv and saw the dvd for 3 pounds so thought why not. Actually enjoying it, i dont understand the hatred for Glenisters accent. Whilst im sure to an american its probably not that great but ive heard an aweful lot worst overacted and forced american accents that i found this one to be fairly normal. And since i have to hear the drivel of americans trying scottish accents really badly id say Glenister was fine. Yeh the series is not very original being a cross between merlin and buffy, and the writing being very like torchwood, at least it was watchable. The script wasnt always void of cheese, but again, watchable. Acting, well i dont know what people were expecting because even in those show people were comparing this too, ie charmed, buffy and merlin the acting was never amazing and i have to say the acting here tho not amazing was miles better than charmed.

All in all if you want to compare this to other tv series fine, but don't make out that the other shows were spectacular because they all had flaws and some were just unwatchable. (Charmed, im talking to you)

Very lazy script Extremely lazy acting sorry sleep walking would be more descriptive.
So absolutely ghastly it should never have got any further then commissioning stage. Therefore it must have escaped from somebodies waste paper basket!

I didn't hate it either, but I was very disappointed.

Some of the cast lacked screen presence, and therefore that little bit of gravitas that this sort of show really needs. Mr. Glenister seemed uncomfortable with his accent and that affected his performance, which was a shame because he can do 'presence' !

The storylines sometimes insulted my intelligenge - and I'm a veteran of silly sci-fi / horror stuff.

There were some good ideas, some engaging perfomances and it could have been good - therein lies the disappointment. It couldn't seem to make its mind which audience it was aiming for either, when it could easily have appealed very widely.

A shame, because you don't see many mainstream supernaturnal series any more, and like 'Strange' (I liked that) this seems doomed to be largely forgotten - and it'll probably be harder for writers and producers to pitch similarly themed ideas in the future.

Phoebe_Halliwell427,
Well I'm not a 'Hater'-I'm an "Irritable"-it had so much promise: Vamps are one of my favorite genres, so I like seeing them done well.

CHARACTERS:
RUPERT: Accent-As an American-I wish they'd have left him English-He traveled a lot! He could have picked up an accent along the way. It could have been slight-his trying the American one proved he was capable of toning down his British accent down. If they didn't want Buffy The Vampire Slayer comparisons-call him something very different-they should have let him have a mild Brit Accent & said he worked with American's so much he lost it mostly OR they should have intentionally given him a dialect different than Giles from BTVS, & made sure that even the characters said sounded different. So that audience members that never heard more than one British accent would know it wasn't a common English Dialect.

As for his character-sometimes he seemed to get into his role & he was enjoyable-but most of the time it seemed like he was thinking about adding shoe polish to his grocery list. He didn't have a lot to do other than scold everyone. It just seemed sort of sad. He's a really good actor.

LUC: He was really handsome-but other than that he seemed to be blinder than Mina-whom he couldn't tell was a Vamp. He couldn't figure out that Ruby loved him, or that Rupert was his father. He never 'read' anything he was supposed to-because he seemed too self absorbed. As far as Characters go-he's pretty damn annoying. But handsome & he should be annoying shirtless.

RUBY: Spends most of her time running about pining for Luc, being jealous of Mina, sort of having a crush on Rupert but also resenting & defying him, then trying to get his approval. All the while proving she's the only one that's actually capable of reading comprehention-she's the only one that actually reads all the 'homework' Rupert assigns Luc, but when there's a 'fight' she's the one that will freeze & scream helplessly & get captured endangering everyone.

MINA: Supernatural-Seer, Vamp...it's hard to say..I mean really. For a Seer-her powers should work better/more often. But it's like they forgot about them. If she's part Vamp-how is it, everyone keeps sneaking the hell up on her? It's just those bitty things annoy the snot out of me--but they're 'nit picky about the characters.

PLOTS: They could be good, but they're sort of generic-they're not building up a mytharc very well-especially not for people who aren't familair with the Van Helsing Storey.

They're coming up with bits of plot devices-but like red herrings, you think it's goind somewhere, but then the writers just chuck them.

They could have given a great flashback to Ruperts wife & what happened-it could have been a great mytharc told in 2 or 3 episodes. The 1st one would have been the set up of finding out the rat was back-then Mina saying that the Rat was responsible for Ruperts wife's death & Luc asking Mina how & Ruby asking Rupert how & them telling the 'kids'(for the 2nd episode-it would have been a flashback to young Rupert & Van Helsing Sr. & Ruperts Wife & Luc's Mom & blah blah blah w/ Mina)

Then the wrap up with what happened with Mina being knocked out in their hideout & Rupert & Luc almost drowning in the Maze/Trap.

So everyone got to find out background-character development, and then the Rat Villian could be more evil blah blah blah.

As it stands, most of the plots seem like rather thinly veiled P.E.T.A. P.S.A.'s. You've got the Rat Archnemisis that got away-Who's there to say-don't test on defenseless lab animals. & you've got Mina's son- 'People are like chicken's they don't have feelings--they're just stupid, I need to eat."

I wish they'd pick a few evil nemisis that they didn't whack-that could creep around after them. Not just drop dead nice and neat at the end of the program, that's just so very trite.

I don't hate the show. I just wish that they'd make it edgier, and if they do another Season for the US, SciFi channel that they make sure to have the writers have the dialogue crisper. I was really hoping that this was going to be like 'Primevil' (Not 'Torchwood' blithe..I didn't actually 'like' 'Torchwood', especially NOT the 1st season. I thought it was boring.)

Speaking for myself, I honestly WANTED to like this show. I like Phillip Glenister, loved him in Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. I thought the premise of the show was just the sort of thing I usually like.

But oh, my, god, no. There wasn't one original idea here. The boy was okay and I rather liked his wannabegirlfriend but that idea has been DONE TO DEATH. Why do writers and producers think it's attractive to present yet another girl mooning over a boy who 'just wants to be friends'? I'd have a lot more respect for the characters if they actually WERE just friends who happened to be male and female.

The writing was terrible. Mr. Glenister looked embarrassed to be saying his lines.

I'll still look for all these actors in other things because I think this TRAIN WRECK of a show wasn't their fault.

On a personal note, just because YOU don't like to hear "It's a stale copy of a dozen other better-done shows and movies and that supposedly American Accent SUCKED!" that doesn't make them stupid answers.

Let slip the Determined Kitten of Doom!
