Surprisingly bad

Both seasons are now available on Netflix. I really wanted to like this show but wow, is it terrible. Given its obviously massive budget and it's at least inspired, if not directly copied from Mythbusters, it's hard to believe how bad it is.

I think its entire premise is screwed up. Every episode is basically "a solution looking for a problem" coupled with some kind of overall mission of improving public safety. These both tend to contradict each other, resulting in ridiculous, over-the-top, completely impractical objectives.

If they dumped the public safety objective and provided some insight on how they came up with their ideas, ie "we have $100,000 worth of Rhino Liner, what's the best way to test how strong it really is", I think the show could have been workable.

But then again, the cast is so unlikeable, it's tough to say. The men try so hard to be cool, renegade, engineers and the woman tries to pull off the sexy but smart persona, it's hard to stomach.

I think the second season reboot is slightly better, with Deanna being the lead of the show. I don't know if she had voice lessons or I just got used to her but I think she does an acceptable job in this role (giving up the hoop earings, etc. also helped). But replacing two irritating guys who had some chemistry with two more guys with no chemistry and are even more annoying, overshadowed this.
