Can't wait to avoid this stunning trash

My subject says it all.

reply

I would feel embarassed - your post was absolutely ignorant and stupid. If you don't care to watch a film...or a television show...wouldn't that kind of dictate that you wouldn't take the time to post in the forum?

reply

First off, yes, the OP's post is not only lazy but stupid as well. I don't disagree with him but there's more to be said than that.

As for you, LeOmbre, there's a difference between spending 2 hours watching a film that tries to preach something you don't care to hear and taking 40 seconds to express that feeling on an internet forum.

Neither of you is especially smart. Congratulations.

As for my opinion, shouldn't Hollywood stop trying to act like they know everything. The cast list for this movie reminds me of the scene in Team America where all the celebrities are talking about how it's their duty to read the newspapers and then repeat what they've read as if it were their own opinion.

Obviously that's not exactly what this is but that's what comes to mind. Personally, I couldn't care less about what actors have to say unless they're reading their lines. They're just regular people. What makes their opinions so valued?

Anyways, I must be off. I realize it's been awhile between your post and mine but I hope you'll respond soon. Bye.

reply

Why should anyone care what your opinion is? What makes your opinion more valuable than theirs?

reply

My opinion isn't any more valuable than their opinions, you're missing the point. Last time I checked, an internet forum was somewhere where people could come and voice their opinions and discuss a subject of shared interest. The fact that me sharing my opinion comes as a shock to you proves that you're unfamiliar with this concept.

Now as for my disregarding of the OP's post and the post immediately following, as I stated before, I believe that neither of those posts contributed at all to this discussion, or at least not well, excluding of course the obvious contribution of starting the thread.

So basically, my post is entirely within the confines of what is expected on an internet forum while your post, being also within the confines of what is expected on an internet forum as it is your opinion, does not contribute at all to this discussion, namely whether or not this particular documentary will be worth viewing.

I stated my opinion on the subject, you stated your opinion on me. Apparently we both have too much time on our hands, but at least my post is relevant to this thread.

Good night.

reply

Yes, but you're attacking them for having an opinion. Aren't you being a hypocrite now? Why should you be allowed to have an opinion, and they shouldn't?

reply

Because I type in paragraphs and use big words, that's why.

Thanks for coming out.

But I do actually think that those two are a bit off. The OP's argument isn't really an argument, and while yes it is his opinion, it doesn't really consist of any depth or anything even worth commenting on. Or so is my opinion. And the fellow after him was pretty much just pointing this out but happened to draw the rather flawed conclusion that if you don't like a movie you shouldn't bother wasting your time posting on its message board. For the most part I agree, but since, as I've previously stated, it takes 40 seconds to post something and 2 hours to watch a movie, there's a bit too much of a difference to legitimately compare the two and use that as an argument. Or so is my opinion.

Either way, I've spent far too much of my life on this thread already so I shall bid ye farewell. It's been a pleasure.

Jesse Bross is talking of his or hers ***. It's just another troll poster that wants to be notice by having an "opinion" on something they dislike. It's easy to simply not comment on something you object to, but, oh, wait! No one would notice me and how intellectual I am if I voice my negative opinion! Jesse, you didn't come off smart, you came off as annoying. I came on here to get info on what "The People Speaks" is about and found a person with too much time on their hands that probably doesn't have a life (like me! :-)

Anytime someone tries to do something positive, a troll that's in need of attention (like Jesse) shows up and gives a negative two cents about something that's not even released yet. Don't just grow up, Jesse, Grow out of it and say something positive for once. (oh and I am generalizing you as an example of the whole IMBD trollers, I mean community.) you're probably going to come back with some "clever" pun or F U, because, well, you're predictable. so...

Actually I had a good laugh at what you posted. It's been so long since I posted that stuff I had totally forgotten about it.

For the record though, I was trying to be a prick and annoy people. For fun, not to be noticed. And the goal was never to sound smart, it was precisely to sound annoying, under the veil of trying to sound smart. And while I don't necessarily disagree with anything I wrote before, the tone of my argument was clearly always intended as an act of epic trolling.

And I definitely do have too much time on my hands. I'm looking into a hobby :)

reply

The difference is that like it or not-I don't-actors have the ear of the people. They're not attempting to subvert this and make it their own. They're REreading words of the people for a new generation to get the message. Most kids today will never have heard the words of Sojourner Truth without this film. That's the real tragedy. Hell, most kids today think Pacman's boring. If it isn't an iPod or a Gucci bag they don't want to care.

Are celebrities and actors just people with a higher paying job? Yes. But that doesn't stop others from looking up to them or listening when they speak. I think the movie will be great, and I'm glad that these people know that they can influence people and are using it for something positive. Old messages in new and shiny wrappings.

The short one's gawking at me and the tall one's being very droll.

reply

Just so you know, what they're reading isn't their own opinion. It's words that were written at historically significant points in our past. Without a movie like this, a lot of these points of view would not be heard by a large part of our society. Whether you agree with the those points of view is another issue, but the actors themselves are not doing anything but reading their lines. Just like you want them to do.

reply

Yo KCsilentbob! You sound so stupid.. Its people like dumbass that makes this world *beep* up. You should wanna know about history *beep*

reply

KC's problem is that he can't handle the fact that maybe not everything about the birth and growth of this great nation of ours has been so perfect.
Don't get me wrong, I am as patriotic as the next guy, but it is good to be informed of some of the realities that the United States and Americans in general have imposed upon the world.

Ignorant chumps like KC would prefer to drape themselves in the American flag and masturbate in the mirror whilst singing God Bless America as opposed to actually listening to some opposing view points.

I agree with the OP. If I want left-wing Trotskyite prattle about how terrible the very existence of America has been for the planet, I have only to listen to the latest World-Apology-Tour speech from Dear Leader Chairman Maobama.

"left-wing Trotskyite prattle about how terrible the very existence of America has been for the planet"

It's hardly that. These people they're quoting are some of the people who changed this country for the better.

reply

Agreed KCsilentbob...I'm sure this will be "fair and balanced". LOL.

More left wing crap. Anyone else sick of this garbage?

reply

[deleted]

All this year the right-wingers were dancing around in their costumes at their tea parties. Heaven forbid someone should read what Thomas Paine's actual words were.

I guess we can all see why "KCsilentbob" won't be writing a book that will have the impact Howard Zinn's "A People's History" has had. Wow, such a convincing argument against the book and film.

reply

no YOUR comment say's it all - It is exactly WHY this movie needs to be made.

Another irony is that they keep telling themselves that the "Tea Bag" protests were ALL right-wing conservatives.
-------------------------

Where were these people during eight years of Bush? If their main beef is protesting big government, they had a lot of opportunities under him. Teabagger rallies are far dwarfed by the anti-war protests in 2003 and 2004.

Why do so many Americans and immigrants hate this country? I'm sure that any country could come up with things to loathe about themselves if they tried as hard as our liberals.
In the end, are you on our side? Isn't it YOUR OWN side? If someone wants to kill a bunch of Americans, do you live under some delusion that they won't bomb a place where anti-American liberals may be present?
Isn't the tax money you want us to give away yours and mine? Perhaps not - you may draining my tax dollars yourself, for "entitlements" and be a totally disinterested party on the topic of taxes.
Our forefathers earned what we have much the same way everyone's did, even if it was in a more ancient time. I don't know about you, but I've earned what little I have as much as the next guy (and I don't mean it was my "entitlement").
How many current American lives do we owe for past "wrongs", as perceived by some hater? How much of YOUR money do you think ought to be collected by the government and shipped off to people who claim our standard of living is too good, or our products and corporations are too hard to compete with?
I'm here. I want the country I'm in to compete, to win, to prosper! I want our Federal Government to represent US over any other interests. I want them to perform one of their original purposes and keep me safe from foreign threats.
It's easy (and seemingly popular) to rag everything. Please try to resist the urge to jump on the bandwagon.
I'm an American. I kneel to no entity but God. I live in the best country that has ever existed on this planet.

Amen, sliptdisk. Im not a religious man but, amen. And thank you for serving.

I heard a lot of criticisms of both conservative & liberal politicians during the show I watched. Particularly made note that the New Deal was passed only due to pressure from organized groups of people who were desperate for help & made a similar remark about Kennedy & Civil Rights Legislation (even went so far to say something like "but what we didn't learn in school is that Kennedy's administration was pressured into passing Civil Rights Legislation due to outside pressures..........). Funny how some only hear or notice what they want.

And remember---Lincoln noted in his Gettysburg Address that our government is of the people, by the people, and FOR the people. Imagine that! Our government being here for its people. To help its people when necessary. What a concept!

And liberals are accused of being whiny, cry babies! Conservatives have only been out of power for just about a year now but you'd think it's been twenty five years with all of their belly aching & complaining ever since Obama won the election.

Only when liberals complained during Bush's presidency we were accused of being anti-American & unpatriotic and other nasty names. While I can fully understand why you may not agree with a liberal agenda, please stop acting as if the conservative agenda has all of the answers---because it doesn't anymore than the liberal one does.

I had to get that rant out, sorry. I've been trying to become more even keeled with my beliefs when it comes to these types of issues and try not to stick my nose up about anyone's particular set of beliefs, whether I agree with them or not. Not always the easiest thing to do!

But how can we expect our elected officials to work together in bipartisan ways for what's best for all people (not just you or me) when we, the citizenry can't even talk to each other like mature adults???

Please try not to just believe in what you believe.........try to at least understand the opposing viewpoint & (GASP) respect it a little bit. Once we all start doing that, we'll be on our way to a much better place to get real things done that will help real lives.

Celebrities have far less influence on our lives than many conservatives think. I'm a pop culture junkie & have been since I was a little kid in the 1970's but please give me some credit to be able to form my own opinions without being totally influenced by what celebrities say.

But keep in mind that some celebrity activism is necessary & actually very helpful. Many celebrities promote various charities. Do PSA's about drug use, medical issues, educational issues, etc. Elizabeth Taylor was one of the very first big-name celebrities to speak out about the AIDS epidemic in the 1980's and founded AMFAR.

Many celebrities have helped countless people through their charitable endeavors. And they DO have the right to use their status to disseminate information to the masses if they so choose. If you disagree with it, so be it. Just remember that that it's vice-versa.

You are wrong. It was not in the least stunning.

The big surprise was how mediocre it all was.

I expected a better show, at least. If you are going to put on a show based on bs, at least make it a good show.
