English subtitles?

Does the dvd version have horrible English subtitles?
I was watching a streaming version; the translators seem to have had only an elementary grasp of the English language, with no concept of sentence structure. I want to watch the movie in its original language, but am put off by the quality of the subs. Here's to hoping that this has been corrected on the dvd release.

Wow. I just watched this on DVD and it's about the worst subtitles I've ever seen in my life. Thankfully this isn't exactly a dialog driven movie so I don't think there was much to miss.

Not only are there incomplete sentences but the words don't even match what they're saying, like when the royal guy yells "stop" but the sub says "start". And I'm pretty sure the kids never said anything about a "bike" but there it was in the subs.

Hopefully some fans will sub it properly... or maybe it'll get a proper release with subs by someone who actually speaks both languages.

Would you happen to have any... flan?

I just found a much better sub version on Mysoju. I couldn't even watch earlier versions because of the God-awful translation.

funimation just came out with thier version that has both the subs and dub. and the subs are quite good. its a two disk edition and not that espensive at all.

The one I'm watching now seems fine. There is a "country" dialect used for the peasants (dropped -g's, double negatives, etc.); is that what you mean?

reply

It wasn't that bad, but they should have toned down that language from the horse a bit. That really set a bad example.

you americans are too used to watch original version... i swear, in quebec we watch american movies in french, and since we are used to this since birth, even the worst acting become correct cause of good traduction... how much movie i see where people complain on the acting and im like "huh seem fine for me" just cause of good job on traduction. There was a compagnie in the early 2000 releasing movie with *beep* traduction, but they realize it completely felt horrible and made a disaster of the movie, it looks like a cheap "late night soft porn dubbed version" where lips dosent match words... and they improved on that and now they make quality traduction of low budget B and C movie...

Trust me, dubbed version make miracle sometimes...

I saw this in french dubbed, and it was pretty good.

"Us" Americans? I'm English, thanks all the same. But sadly you write the typical mess that Québecois produce, neither one thing nor the other. The Americans (and other Anglophones) laugh at your English and the Froggies laugh at your French.

Kind of a lose-lose situation, really. Eh? Traduct that, mon petit choux.
