one mystery still remains unsolved for me after watching the movie

If Miles Bron was supposedly this vacuous non-entity, how did he make them all rich and famous?

And why would Andi have started a company with someone like him?

reply

Phan bois and gurlz don't want that question asked or answered.

reply

Still looking for an answer to this.

reply

The very fact that you had to post this under your own topic means you weren't likely looking for a legitimate answer, more just ways to tell everyone you think you found a flaw when there's not really one and we're primed to double down on it.

reply

I bumped my thread because it went way down on the list of topics while people were arguing why Benoit Blanc is gay now and the leftist agenda.

I am sorry you are unfamiliar with the concept of bumping. Please stop replying to me.

reply

You're just pissed because everything I've said about you has been correct.

Question asked. Question answered.
"No, you just like being a contrarian."

I'd say your desire to pick fights over something that's not even a flaw is...undignified.

reply

The OP is discussing their thoughts on the movie, nothing more. They have a different opinion about the movie, one that you seemingly can't convince them to change. Get over it and cut the shit with all the ad-hominem crap. It doesn't bolster your own opinions in any way. I disagree with the OP's opinion in this thread, but I'm not about to start whining and attacking them when they don't align with my point of view. The whole point of this site is to discuss different views.

reply

Ah, their numerous attempts to form an anti-me club are proving unsuccessful. 😄

reply

so you don't have an answer

reply

Guess you can't read.

reply

I wouldn’t label him a vacuous non-entity, more like a sleazy businessman with a few connections.

In a flashback Helen explains that when Miles met the group everyone was washed up. He got Birdie a show for her designs, got Lionel published, he got Duke set up with Twitch, and helped Claire win a local election. Then Andi came up with the napkin idea. Andi and Miles started Alpha and it blew up. They took the rest of the group along for the ride, presumably as investors; that's how they all got rich.

Miles is a snake in the grass, but at the time Andi had no reason to not trust him. He had just helped out all of her friends and seemed trustworthy. In fact, everything was going great for 10 years until Miles got obsessed with the hydrogen fuel concept. The rest of the group got greedy and conspired with him to cut Andi out so they could all profit from the hydrogen fuel concept.

reply

This was a man who said "inbreathiate". He really was extremely stupid.

I see comparisons here to Elon Musk, but no one can accuse Musk of not understanding the concepts he is working with.

This guy otoh knew nothing about anything.

reply

He's definitely an idiot, but he knew enough to run Alpha with Andi for a decade. I wouldn't say that being an idiot and a successful businessman are mutually exclusive.

reply

Indeed. I'm sure we've all seen real-world "successful" people demonstrate ways of being idiots. Successful people misuse words too.

reply

I feel like you just like being contrarian. Sure, I once witnessed Mr. Wonderful on Shark Tank use a totally wrong word that had nothing to do with the situation, but nobody can deny that he knows business.

What does this guy know? What redeeming qualities does he have? It was made abundantly clear that he was a complete nincompoop.

reply

I think you're one of those people who are just going to stick to their guns no matter what anyone says, much like flat earther. How is me accepting what the film presented being a contrarian? Just because I don't agree with you? If anyone is a contrarian here, it's you. Aren't you the same poster that posted essentially "Why are there cameos; they're weird"

It was also made abundantly clear that Andi was the brains of the company and its rise until she was cut out. And I would say it takes a little savvy to even orchestrate that. Miles just needed to coast.
As to why? Maybe he had Andi fooled too. Maybe she saw a bit of herself in him, being that Helen also kind of saw her as a "faker" as far as how she carried herself. We never actually meet Andi outside of a flashback, so we can't really make the judgment that she wouldn't.

So I guess people are more than one-dimensional, so I am able to accept that. Why do you feel the need to only think in absolutes?

reply

Also, Helen explained to Blanc how she tried to warn Andi that her group of friends were "shitheads", but Andi didn't listen. It's clear that Andi was a very poor judge of character. She also shared Miles' insecure need to try to inflate himself. Miles tried to sound smart with his vocabulary and Andi changed her accent. They were both idiots in reality.

reply

Yup, right on.

Welcome to the "contrarian club" I guess.

reply

I was initially going to write a more thorough reply, but this phrase - "accepting what the film presented" - tells me that there is no point.

You are just an apologist, you are not looking for logic or any semblance of common sense, so there is no point in trying to get a real answer to my query out of you.

reply

Yes because there are times where what the movie presented makes sense, and I layed out perfectly reasonable reasons why, as well as why your view is really based on nothing.

Can't really be able apologist for something that's not really a flaw to begin with.

The fact that you wrote a general blanket "accepting what is presented" as a knock on me without any real thought confirms my initial suspicion that you're the actual contrarian who is incapable of thinking outside of absolutes. The perpetual "double down" type.

reply

I knew a very rich business man who seems really dumb and says made up words like Cofefe.

reply

I think we're shown enough to infer the answer. Basically he has just enough charisma and just enough connections to build a life standing on the shoulders of others but making it look like he gave them all a helping hand.

reply

Another perfectly reasonable response.

Probably rejected by the OP because of "reasons."

reply

This thing you are doing, trying to garner support from every random stranger is... undignified.

reply

I'm not trying to garner any support. Just pointing how how ridiculous you are at this point.

Because it's true.

reply

Charisma? Yet literally none of them ever actually liked him? Do you yourself find him charismatic?

Let's take just one example, how he supposedly helped Claire win a local election. How would a doofus like that be able to help? In fact, how would any regular person who is not in politics themselves know even the first thing about what to do?

I just don't see how he could have anything to offer from the start. I mean, it makes for a neat little plot device, but in real life this would have been impossible.

reply

I agree with you about Miles’ lack of charisma, which is why Miles didn’t win anyone over until he did things for them.

With Claire though, it was a LOCAL election. That would likely equate to winning a position on a city or town council. That’s not a difficult thing to do. I personally know a few people in state and city government. One, who’s a member of their state senate, started off in their early 20’s running for town council.

Assisting candidates in local elections isn’t as involved as you’re making it out to be. Things as simple as canvasing neighborhoods or organizing a few local events can make the difference. Maybe he knew someone with PR experience or even campaign experience.

Everyone in the group was stupid, and unmotivated, which is why it wasn’t much work to help each of them. Take Duke for example, Miles set him up at twitch. How effortless was that? What did he even do, just suggest that Duke sign up? More than anything, he just provided everyone with the motivation that they needed to get of their asses.

Your post asks two straightforward questions: how everyone got rich, and why Andi would work with Miles. Both questions had answers provided in the film and this thread. Johnson could have provided more details, but they’re just not important to the story. The last thing the movie needed was an extra half-hour of flashbacks.

reply

I suppose it's akin to Andrew Ridgley of Wham making millions despite not being able to sing, read or write music and being unable to play a musical instrument.
Sometimes it just happens.

reply

I think that's a perfect analogy, though poorly worded. George Michael was the talent, but introverted, shy, and unable to get onto stage without his cooler, outgoing, popular friend there to spur him on. Sometimes a genius needs a people person on his side.

reply

My takeaway is that he's like a lot of people who get wealthy through schmoozing, coattail riding, influencing, etc. He gives off the appearance of intellect and talent, but is in over his head. Andi most likely understood that while she had the idea, ideas are a dime a dozen. She needed someone like him to handle the public side of things.

reply

He also seems like the kind of person who'd put his foot in his mouth a lot, though.

reply

He didn't seem to do that in the film. At the end, he was very clever and quick to extract himself from a dire situation. It was only Helen's willingness to take things to an extreme level that lead to his defeat. I imagine him as someone in the Steve Jobs mold: probably not very tech-savvy himself, but when paired with a Steve Wozniak he is formidable. Wozniak, on the other hand, could tinker and invent, but probably lacked the wherewithal to turn his inventions into a multi-billion dollar company without someone like Jobs by his side.

reply

That part is just bad writing. The writer just wanted to ridicule rich people in an immature way.Seemed unnecessary since the movie is already critisizing the rich,so the message would have been clear even without trying to paint Edward Nortons character as some sort of an imbecile.

reply

blindfolded is a complete moron and probably cries himself to sleep jerking off over his woke agenda. Pay him no mind.
