So what did you think?

I thought it was Ok. I thought they went OTT on the blood a bit and the gang seemed nuts, like when the guy slits the fat cops throat- The guy is dieing but he decides to then stab him several times again in the back of the neck... what's the need?

Wu Jing and that other guy were like superheroes which reminds me of that cape Wu Jing was wearing; WTF? And that silly hairstyle, it's not Lord of the Rings!

But yeah not bad, it's about time Wu Jing gets his own movies, I do wonder if he would be able to handle the main role sometimes but im sure he can(he did fine in Tai Chi but that's a different style), Jet Li does. :P

Badly written but meh, A thoughts/review thread is in need.

Go on..

WU jing was in his own movie, was he not? Fatal Contact.

"The guy is dieing but he decides to then stab him several times again in the back of the neck... what's the need? "

Thats a silly question. Then may as well say why murder? If your going to kill someone out of hate/rage/or for fun, you want the victim to suffer and to feel immense amount of pain before they die. Unless your question is about the directors or actor decision why they did what they did, well they were pushing to have more gorey action scenes in this film. I haven't seen the movie but, I really want to.

I thought it was the most one-dimensional film that I have seen in ages. With such a great cast, I was hoping for some depth to the characters, but I was seriously let down here. There was no real acting going on here at all.

And, yes, the violence was silly. Was this supposed to be some sort of HK live-action anime thingy? The cape, the blue hair, the sword, and the poorly done CGI blood and gore... jeez. Worse than a saturday morning cartoon, and horribly distracting.

reply

Yes this movie was terrible. I was wondering how the fight between Wu-Jing and his boss Sammo was going to happen....Man I was let down. "I never thought you were #1" what the *beep*, how does that lead to a fight to the death. Yes I agree there was a great cast but, this movie had at least 8 different cliche drug trafficing scenes about "I got 1 ton of drugs for 3 million of the 5 million in my account." It's like okay we get the point, your the triad and you deal in drugs and prostitution, your dangerous people to deal with. Weak movie all around.

"even Fatal Contact which was boring was much better than this crap."

Exactly what I was thinking. Though at first I didn't like Fatal Contact all that much, after a while Fatal Contact grew on me and I actually like it now. I thought HK was beginning to get their groove back with martial arts films after making SPL and Fatal Contact but, third times a charm to f*%$ up everything. Ironically, a Fatal Move is not only the basis of the story but a fatal move was made when making this film it seems.

Well, this movie was very good.
And you where right about stabbing the guy in the neck.
He was slashing his throat already, so he could bleed to death within a few seconds.
Just a random psychopath.
A little bit tò much violent.
But the flic is fine to me.
I have it in my collection of asian-gangsterflics.
Excellent movie though.

i like it. it's not great but also not that bad. the fight scene between Sammo and Wu Jing at the end was really good... although it was really senseless to fight at this time of the storyline.

reply

you know how old martial arts films put their best fight scene at the end, so that you leave the cinema thinking that was cool, well that's the only explanation i can give for that fight scene at the end (to rescue the film). I've not really watched HK films made in the last 15 years, because of all the cgi and dependence on wires, or over the top direction. This film cemented that. It was just plain boring with all that triad boss storyline. Sammo just shows no onscreen charisma, which is a bit of a shame, because i watched it because of him. And as for that blood, i just don't understand how a director cannot watch that and think to himself "I'm releasing a pile of *beep* with my name attached to it. I can only guess that HK audiences are impressed by this cgi stuff? And another thing, just because a guy is walking down a street, just showing in slow motion doesn't make it a better clip. HK seen obsessed with that too - hang overs from the John Woo days - who actually knew how to do it. 4.5/10

If you judge this movie as an action movie primarily, then you'll give it a bad score. If you judge it as a mob film I think it comes off much better, and had some really good production values. I'm surprised that it's only at 5.5/10 at this time of writing.

i liked the film. the over the top blood is a blatant rip off of kitanons zatoichi. for its many flaws i found the film perfectly entertaining and it should have a higher score.
P.S for the people who want to know what the fight at the end was about. They both refused to surrender to the police. so they decided to have a fight to the death. it was is jest and good will there was no hatred. thought that was rather clear.

reply

"thought that was rather clear."

It was clear. And a stupid excuse to stage a fight

reply

I don't think it was a stupid reason to fight because they both knew they were going to die any way so why not?

I actually enjoyed this movie I thought it was good, terrible storyline but the action was great.

I liked it. I think the people who gave it low scores, came in with unrealistic expectations, hoping for another stylish noir like SPL.

It has more of a comic book feel, and showed me a new side of Jacky Wu that i've never seen before. He resembled a classic Japanese or Hong Kong comic book villain, but not as cheesy or obvious as for example Dragon Tiger Gate.

Jacky's latest film, Legendary Assassin, sucked imo. It was essentially a VERY poor man's Assault on Precinct 13, but nowhere near the suspense or thrill. It's not his fault though, he and Celina Jade were pretty good, but the script sucked. Fatal Contact remains his best movie where he plays a major (acting) role.

I see you eying my lemon drink.
