When are American's going to realise they can't write comedy?

American's suck at comedy.

They have no sense of subtlety and resort to dumbed-down, juvenile humour aimed at the simplest of minds. This movie sucked. I knew it was going to suck as soon as they gave us a fat joke within in the first five minutes because hey! Fat people are funny lol and can't run!

Typical American tosh. Leave the comedy to us Brits and focus on the high-budget thrillers, sci-fi and action movies/tv series that you yanks are best at. Just leave comedy well alone. Every American comedy is awful, dumbed down nonsense. I honestly can't think of one that I've actually found to be funny.

reply

Well, thanks for giving us credit on the thrillers, action movies, and sci-fi flicks at least. However, I have to disagree with you. While you Brits have made several funny comedies in the past, we've made quite a few ourselves. Of course, this is all just my opinion, since comedy is very subjective. I do agree with one point though, a lot of our comedy films are about as subtle as being smacked in the head with a sack of bricks.

However, we're not the only ones guilty of being unsubtle. For god's sake, Monty Python originated from your place. They aren't exactly the kings of subtlety.

As an American, dick jokes were old the day they were born...

I am just curious..
How is USA one of the youngest country in the World? I think the whole African continent's countries are probably younger than USA. Even before 2013 (when there was yet no South Sudan) it'd be one of the least youngest.

reply

No, actually the African continent HAS been around much longer than the USA. The nations on that continent are another story, but the continent itself is billions of years old. Hope I cleared that up for you.

Sorry I made that mistake. English is not my native language.
I've now edited my post of what it should have been.

You're one of the whiniest little bitches I've seen on here. Do you do anything except complain?

I find it kind of ironic that your scripture stick has dried blood on it.

Will it be when you learn how to use apostrophes correctly?

reply

I live in the UK and can honestly say American comedy has totally eclipsed ours.

reply

Yeah, because the phrases "dumbed down" and "juvenile" couldn't be used to describe any UK comedy ever... Oh, hang on, Mr. Bean. Kevin & Perry. Gavin and *beep* Stacey.

The US has been pounding us when it comes to comedy for the best part of ten years now. We've come out with a couple of good shows (The IT Crowd, Black Books) but there hasn't been anything to touch Arrested Development, Modern Family, Parks & Recreation or Archer. Get over yourself, you arrogant tosspot.

If you think old movies are boring or modern movies suck, you haven't seen enough of either.

reply

The IT crowd and black books are both British

And Arrested Development, Modern Family, Parks & Recreation and Archer are all from the USA. That's my point, go re-read my post.

If you think old movies are boring or modern movies suck, you haven't seen enough of either.

Brits still need to work on comedy that will play outside the little North Atlantic archipelago where they live. Fawlty Towers doesn't cut it anywhere else for most people.

When will Brits stop being so obsessed with America and Americans and pull the sticks out of their asses?

We don't really give you a second though for the most part but I'm constantly seeing Brits putting us down for this and that.

Don't watch our movies or TV and go about your life.

I <3 America

I am British

Why continue bumping the thread of an obvious troll? It was started nearly a year ago and the OP has not commented since he started it.

Let the thread die already.

reply

Uhhh Being from Britain you have seen Bennie Hill, right?

I enjoyed Shawn of the Dead and Zombieland. They are two different flavors of comedy.
