Am I the only one that didn't like this movie?

SPOILERS
The story is full of inconsistencies and holes. We never know why she never to took the papers from the stuffed bird. We never know what happened to the son, he only appears twice when he's an adult and in the last scene he is at the hospice (when?).
Nothing is told about the evolution of Mussolini. In the beginning, he is a socialist and, then, he is a fascist. He was an atheist and then he gave the church a state. How did that happen? We never know.
Mussolini disappears after a while, never to be seen again in the movie. But I find his portrayal in the beginning to be little more than a caricature. The scene where he is naked in front of the plaza, like a major macho, is just ridiculous. I guess that people like to think that dictators are all wackos but the reality is far more complex.
In the same line, I have to ask, how did Mussolini came to power? Again, we never find out.
The movie is not about Mussolini, but about a supposed romance, I know. But even that story has major flaws.
The only thing worthwhile was Giovanna Mezzogiorno, her acting is brilliant.

I really enjoyed the movie and I understand your points.

For me, the movie only added more suspense and mystery by not explaining so much.

I just go online and research it for myself.

Perhaps that is the motive of the producer? Obviously, he knew about everything you asked in your post but he intentionally left it out. More focus on Ida? Some things left to mystery adds to the story of Mussolini and his lover.

I think its quite obvious why he ended up the same place as his mother. He kept saying his name was Mussolini already from young age. Probably told people he was Mussolinis son too. They locked up his mother so why not him? Telling his story too would make the movie to long and it would've been like telling his mother story all over again.
And true, this movies is not about Mussolinis career but Mussolinis marriage. I mean the title says so, so why expect anything else.

Me neither.
