QUESTION about the fame of two actors in this film.

I'm American and live in America. I love going to see foreign film fare and am fortunate enough to live in a city that shows the folks lots of offerings from Europe in particular.

I always have questions about the fame of the actors, that I see in foreign films -- I wan to know how famous, how visible to natives of the countries in which the films originate, they are.

The woman who played Josepha and the fellow who played the lead cop (the one who George turned in the wallet to), for example. I see them in almost every French film I go to! These folks must be famous beyond belief in France and Europe. I want to know from the French visitors to this board, or from those other people who know French cinema well, the following: Are these two actors seen on TV and in the theater as well? Do they appear in mainstream films or mainly what we'd call "Indie" ones?

I'd like to hear feedback about folks' fame from French natives or from people who know of these actors better than I do, or who have seen them out and about.

dogtown, you can answer part of your question yourself, very easily. click on the character's names on this film's pg; you get mathieu amalric and emmanuelle devos. now click on their names and you will see their pages with their filmographies- including t.v. Click on the 'filmography by ratings' choice and you will see the 'best' films they've been in (per imdb voters, that is.)

both amongst france's busiest actors. he has been in quite a few american productions the last few yrs.- munich, diving bell and the butterfly, quantum of solace............

so far my fav of all her parts has been Read My Lips.

film_ophile,

You're right. I COULD answer all my questions myself by doing copious amounts of research and PAINS-taking the time to click on every name and look up information from there, however ... MUCH of why I was even asking what I did, was so that you NICE, NICE people could do much of my research for me and save me the time of having to do it all myself!

The more Ken Loach films I see, the more I think they need English subtitles.

hmmmmm. i never said ALL your questions; i said some.

i don't respect people who don't do some of the work themselves. if you had done the steps i suggested (all of 10 minutes' work maybe) and then asked something like- which of these films are your favs for these actors? then i would have responded, as I volunteered some of that above. and obvly your question addressed to french people will await their experiences.

btw, i agree completely about ken loach. i watch all his 'contemporary' pieces w/ subtitles. i also do that w/LOTS of films because too often the miking is bad or the actors mumble key things. thank heavens for subtitles. love that feature.

what is the dogtown reference? a reference to the military? skateboarding?

Dogtown's a ref to skating, yeah, the place, the films about the place in LA ... yep!

And, I'm female, so ... hence the gender ref.

Ken Loach films are a BIOTCH to understand! I'm sure he might say the same about how many Americans speak, as well.

You DONT RESPECT PPL WHO DONT DO THEIR RESEARCH. LOL what is the point of these message boards then? To troll people asking legit questions like you are? Good God the 'net would be so much more enjoyable if the rest of us could mute posters like you. IMDB has been ruined by posters like yourself.
Enjoy!

you are FUNny. thanks much for giving me my laugh of the day.

but i really do not understand your feeling the need to post this silly respobnse. I addressed myself to DOGTOWN, not YOU, and she seems to have not been offended by my post (which INCLUDED info she asked for.) So plse have the brains to take offense when someone has directly offended YOU, not someone else.
otherwise, you are going to be a hurt angry puppy for much too much of your short life.
