The film definately draws some pertinent issues:

1) the Omu Cult's sarin gas attacks in the subway, and the nation still uses their image on terror-watch posters in stations. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aum_Shinrikyo)

2) residual fear of nuclear devastation, because of the two bombs in WW2.

3) something I noticed recently that is a little creepy ...

THE HAPPINESS REALISATION PARTY

These guys are a religious political party and they go round and round the neighbourhoods and shopping districts with their vans and speeches. Such a party name is enough to make me wary, anyway! Here is their site (http://www.hr-party.info/). They seem to mean well though some of their policy would please right-wingers, but if viewed from the context of a story like 20CB, it makes one wonder!

The founder of the party is also the founder of Happy Science (http://www.kofuku-no-kagaku.or.jp/en/whatsirh/index.html), back in 1986. He devoted his life to the exploration of truth and finding ways to bring happiness to people all over the world. Apparently, it is said that he achieved Great Enlightenment and awakened to the hidden part of his consciousness which is called El Cantare, who is from the 9th dimension of the spirit world.

Since the founding of Happy Science, Ryuho Okawa has written and published over 500 books, three of which are the basis of the teachings of Happy Science. Information here is gleaned from various web resources and fliers handed out around town.
