Didn't the new century start in 2000?

The story's about this diaster that's meant to happen on the first moments of the 21st Century...but I'm pretty sure the year 2000 began the 21st Century. Am I missing something here...?

eh yes and no... it depends on what is correct and what 'is'... gregorian thingy started counting at 1, which i think is stupid... im not debating that it 'is' how its done, but as far as im concerned... and hopefully as far as common SENSE is concerned, when you are dealing with time, nothing starts at 1... unless you were born 1 year old? have you never looked at an analog clock and noticed that there is an entire gap of time between 12 (or 0, when it 'resets') and 1? everything SHOULD starts at 0, and it only becomes 1 (in this case, year 1) at the END when single measure of time has been COMPLETED.

once a year has passed it becomes 01, when 10 years have passed, and the 11th starts, it is 10... hence 2000 means that 2000 years have passed, and the new set of time has begun (new millenium, new century)... so far as im concerned 2000 should be correct.

2001 means 1 year IN TO the new century... atleast that is the correct way of measuring time... but in TECHNICAL sense, both ways are right... but like i said, no one is born 1 year old, so yeah.. figure out which idea YOU think is right ;)

klauke, you RETARD, of course everybody is born 1 year old. In countries like Iran, for example, they say "you are in your 25th year", not that "you're 24".

Anyway the problem is that you think of history as the age of people : people are born, history is not, there isn't a "year zero".

reply

Iran is dumb.

Anyway, there's no year one or year zero. It's dumb to think that the birth of some guy named Jesus as described in some book is the start of a new "era" or whatever you want to call it. Nobody knows what year or century we truly are in.

reply

Heero14 or the most presumptuous guy in the world. You should explain your revolutionnary views to Iran and to billions of people around the world using the gregorian calendar.

Oh yeah and you're dumb too.
You're welcome.

This thread is hilarious xD
But the truth is that 2001 was actually the start of 21st century.
However, y2k sounds better and companies started using the clean number of 2000 to marketting purposes and it just stuck.
