yea they kind of do thats why id rather see this show done in the way some movies n games were done where cameras are put attached to the scenery but im guessin that would cost too much or take too much work to put up or something like that also you couldnt get as good of shots of the action but i guess it would be a sacrafice for the game

EXACTLY!

THis show is ridiculous. First off they're walking around Universal Studios back lot while the other 10,000 employees are just roaming around on lunch break trying to stay out of the way of this make believe game.

I've been on that lot. If you're being followed by a swarm of cameramen you can't hide from anything, yet these HUNTERS gotta pretend like they didn't see the camera guy standing over the contestant. Please, they see these guys from 100 yards out.

Best thing I saw is this guy dive behind a bush to stay hidden. Too bad there was a camera man standing right over him. Guess that doesn't work to well.

This show is fake just to let you know. They're pretending to play a game. Pathetic they expect people to believe this show is real.

Basically a producer said, I have 5 cameras, a few old suits from the Matrix and one slow week on the Universal Lot... let's make a show! It's really an all time low in Reality TV effort... there is no effort to even appear legit. Look for Universal employees eating lunch in the background of every other shot! They're sitting there like WTF is this crap?

The blonde chick is hot... I'll give 'em that.

Yes and no. Obviously if the game was completely real the hunters would see the camera operators and know where the runners are.

So there must be a set of game rules that the hunters and runners must follow and that we the audience are never told about.

So, for example, the hunter probably has to follow a prescribed path around the board, just like a pac-man ghost. He can't actively search for the players or stay in one place and wait for the runners to walk by. He just walks his designated path.

If he sees a runner, he runs after them. If he loses sight of them, he can't keep running and hope to catch up. He must stop and go back to walking his path again.

He also must ignore the production staff and the fact that a camera operator means that a runner is nearby.

The runners also have rules. They can't leave the designated areas, can't use violence, and probably can't build barricades or lock themselves in rooms.

So you are right in that this isn't a real game of hide-and-seek. Rather it is an attempt to create a life-action simplistic video game.

With that in mind, the show does a fine job.

haha. "can't use violence". if i was on that show and saw a hunter i would be like SCREW THE RULES! and start throwing rocks at them until they ran away

Yah. Somehow I think you'd be disqualified right away, taken away in handcuffs, and then you'd appear in court a few days later.

But you know what? That'd be fun to see, so why don't you just go ahead and stick with your first instinct. Trust me, it will all work out.

this show is fake because it's "reality tv." period.

This show is an odd combination of fake and real. The hunters are obviously told to act like robots and follow a pattern. They are also given rules as to when they must freeze and when they must ignore a contestant.

But, within that set of rules, the game is real.

I've never seen Cha$e, but I think my family recorded a few episode so I can watch them this summer. Are you saying that the Hunters pretend they can't see the cameramen? That's pretty ridiculous if true and quite a dumbing down of a fun show.

In the Japanese show, the cameramen are always a danger of giving away the contestant. I always laugh when a contestant is spotted and they try to hide, knowing the cameraman is right there in the open. Obviously they're found immediately. There have been a few episodes where the contestant keeps telling the cameraman where to stand and to duck as to not give away their position.

I've never heard it said in the Japanese show, but I think one of the rules of the chase is that if the Hunter doesn't see what street you turn down, they stop chasing you. For example, if they're behind you and you turn down a side street, they'll follow, but if you turn down another street before they see you, they won't continue the chase unless you're spotted from the intersection. That's how it seems to be. Much better than pretending cameramen don't exist.
