I think Hong did love the Queen, as well as the King.

After watching the movie for the second time, I conclude that he in fact did love the queen and was not only in lust with her.

The scene when the soldiers went to rescue Hong, he earnestly asks about the Queen's well being and when he found out that she was not there, he looked crestfallen and wanted to go save her.
When the Queen gives him the flower cake telling him that she is in love with him, you can obviously tell that he is very touched.

Other examples also come in mind.

That is not to say that he did not love the king because he obviously did. Anyone who has shown you that much kindness ever since you were young, you would obviously feel some kind of love towards them.

Anyways, that is why this is a love triangle in the true sense of the word I guess.

Did you check out the "No sympathy..." thread two threads down?
Lots of interesting observations on this subject in there. :)

But of course he did love the queen. He only said it was lust so that the king wouldn't get mad, and to placate his jealousy a bit. The way the king phrased his question ("was it love or [just] animal lust?") clearly indicated the answer that would satisfy him more, so Hong Rim basically said what the king wanted to hear.
