Alright I'm going to break from the crowd cuz I actually enjoyed this

I honestly don't see why it's getting such a bad response. Sure it's not fantastic but it is definitely average if not slightly above.

Yah actually I thought it was not too bad, scary enough i think. I mean obviously it's not amazing but amazing slashers barely even exist nowadays.

glad to hear i'm not the only one!

Alot of movie goers hate alot of movies.......why? I dont know, they love harriot the spy though which i thought was garbage for kids, they also love texas chainsaw massacre which i did not LOVE, because i thought it was just some poor kids being killed by a big hulking idiot with a chainsaw. Its helpful to read other peoples reviews, and ratings BUT everyone has there own personal taste, personally i hate the movie night of the demons but people seem to love i cant see why though the point is they found something enjoyable about it and i did not because we have diffrent tastes yet sometimes our tastes coincide because some poeple like rob zombies halloween which i also liked.

dont worry i liked zombies halloween too, but i also liked night of the demons, have not seen this yet but ill try when i get a chance.

I also enjoyed it giving it a 6/10. Now it wasn't amazing or anything but it was better than your average horror film, which isn't all that high of a bar.

Um, it is what it is. There will be another down the way before long. A trilogy perhaps?

reply

I liked it as well. I thought it was better than many of them out there today.

I'm watching it for the second time after thinking about it a number of times since I saw it several months ago. I had forgotten the title but knew I had it written in one of my film journals. When I was checking listings, the name leapt out at me, and I decided to watch it again, now that I know the ending.

So, obviously, this movie stayed with me over time. And, obviously, it was interesting enough to want to see again.

I think it stands out from the pack because it focuses more on the victims, not a detailed dispatching of 1, 2, 3, etc., as too many backwoods slasher movies have done. I found it much more atmospheric than many others of its ilk. Due to its elusive nature on movie channels, it could turn into a cult classic. I know that I tuned in expecting the "Wrong Turn"/"Texas Chainsaw" type of movie, figuring I'd tune out if it moved into "torture porn" category. But, it didn't, leaving me pleasantly surprised.

Count me in as a fan of this film. It's not great, true, but it's far better than most of the pack that has made tons of money for their brutality and messy deaths.

Let's see if the second time around keeps me won over.

EDIT: I liked it even more the second time around! I watched it very late at night, with the sound lowered, the first time, so I didn't catch some things. Now, I want to see it again! So many are attacking this movie, yet some of the things they accuse it of are not correct! Did they watch the same movie we did? You wouldn't think so. This is so much better than "Wrong Turn" and other "backwoods slasher" movies! It's interesting that Daryl Hannah experienced woodsy terror long ago in "The Final Terror". This is better than that movie, and I definitely rank it above "Texas" movies, which are a long line of grossouts with little thought in the story, mayhem for mayhem's sake, like the "Hills Have Eyes" series. I have to praise a film that doesn't go for the simple grossout and their attempts to do "clever" killings. Now, I didn't mind "Wrong Turn" that much, but the hordes of other backwoods movies aren't worth much. Thank goodness, they skipped the gratuitous nudity and explicit sex scene, which is probably why most are attacking it. I've read their remarks about how horror films should always have naked females, which shows me the level of their mentality.

I think "The Devil's Ground" (the title it has on cable) would make a good marathon with "Wind Chill" and~hmmmm~"Dead End", with the family on their seemingly endless drive on a country road. Maybe I would toss in "Vacancy", which surprised me, being nothing like I expected.

It was daymm GOOD! Theres always idiots putting down a good movie here at IMDb b/c there is a HUGE generation gap and others that are outright negative about everything unless its perfect in their minds eye. Hey tho...IDK what was creepier, Darryl Hannah or the killer, lol
