Hate to break it to you, but movie makers do this thing called "creative license".
It makes you think it is real to seem more interesting. Blair Witch & Fargo used the same ploy. Claim it is a true story and it is not.
The Hills Have Eyes did the same thing. In the beginning they said it was based on a true story but it wasn't.
If there REALLY was a story where dozens of dead bodies of murder victims were found near a Native site then it would've made national headlines.
