Broken Flowers
The year of the dog

The Jimmy Show - Also about somone with very little losing even that.

reply

The most direct reference point for Wendy and Lucy is Umberto D., the 1952 Italian neorealist film about a pensioner who can't afford to live, and whose only companion is his dog.

This would make a great double feature with that or Into the Wild.

reply

It would make a good double bill with any neorealist film really. While watching it I kept thinking of 'The Bicycle Thief'

Into the Wild
Me and You and Everyone We Know
Day Night Day Night
Good Dick
Cherish
Brick
A tout de suite
Hannah takes the stairs

Thank you everyone who has posted in this thread. My netflix queue has been meh lately, and Wendy & Lucy is one of my favorite movies of the last decade (along with Broken Flowers). I look forward to checking out more movies like it. I'll also add The Celebration to the list.

reply

Get 'Old Joy' by the same director.

reply

Yeah, Old Joy is great. I'm a fan of Will Oldham's music, and intrigued by the fact that he was starring in a movie. Good movies, both of them, though I like Wendy & Lucy more out of the two.

Yes, "Old Joy" was very good. I agree that this film was better, but they're both quite good.
