spoiler question: the end

The bad possibility: Wendy never makes it to alaska and has to meet a guy to support her or she finds a job in a town and is stuck there for the rest of her days getting paid too little to leave and has to leave lucy with her new owners.

The good possibility: Wendy makes it to Alaska, gets a great job, makes enough money to return to lucy and explains to the owner her story and gets her back.

In reality: She mapped out that train route which would take her to alaska or close for free. She finds a job in alaska but isn't paid as much as she expected. She works long enough to get a raise or better position and makes enough to return to lucy and explains she never knew what happened to lucy and has been looking for her all along. The new owners would realize that it's the right thibg to give lucy back and all is well.
