for the people defending shirley

wow..!! it makes me sad and aggravated that people are trying to defend shirley turner besides the crime she committed..!! and the fact that they are using a mental illness as a shield?? sure she was mentally ill, a sane person would never commit a crime like that, but this doesnt disperse the fact that she actually was the devil..!! imagine the trauma andrew's parents have to go through?? i cant imagine the ways and expectations that led them to cope up with life, they are too strong of a human beings!! i dont want shirleys story to let out, not want to gain any information about her past life..!! she is a pathetic human being and i want karma(if exists) to take his revenge.!!

reply

Nobody is defending Shirley. Instead, what people want to do is to better understand people like her so they can figure out how to keep people from being murdered in the future.

reply

Right on!

i defend her to the point that she DID have a mental illness and that government FAILED on getting her appropriate help/getting her AWAY from her OWN son. It was extremely unfortunate and i totally sympathize with the parents, especially the father how he wanted to KILL her but he chose NOT to. I think she had serious mental issues that should've been looked at but as far as killing herself AND her son, that was a total copout and if there IS a Hell i hope she's BURNING!! :)

reply

I dont think you would say the same if the killer was name Robert and the victims, Judy and little Jessica.

reply

She was mentally ill, but she still KNEW what she was doing. This woman wasn't schizophrenic. She is 100% accountable for her actions. The government is responsible for letting a deranged lunatic go free and get custody of the kid

reply

Committing an atrocious act, that you yourself cannot imagine ever doing, does NOT mean that that person is mentally ill. Sociopaths have full knowledge of the concept of right and wrong; they just don't care.

reply

This was a demented woman who happened to be mentally ill. She was not the type that would ever seek treatment as she would not feel like she was ill, she was always playing the victim. Those histrionic types don't want help they want pity and to manipulate.

reply

Just because someone is mentally ill doesn't exclude them from being responsible of their own actions. Her illness may have failed her to be rational to a degree, however she still needs to be accountable for those actions. Especially something appalling/terrible as what she did to Andrew and Zachary.

reply

Exactly!

I'm surprised. I've watched so many true crime docs this is the only one that made me gasp out loud. She wasn't sick , she was a spiteful bitch

She was both.

reply

You can be both, they aren't mutually exclusive. This woman was intelligent, cunning, vindictive. She planned a murder and then drove half way across the country to do it, and drove back home. This wasn't a crime of passion, or because voices in her head were telling her to do it. This was a woman that would get enraged and likely want people to suffer for it. She did not seem insane from the bits that we heard/saw, she seemed fully aware of her actions and the consequences. Then again at the end, that was all premeditated and staged to inflict the most damage possible to the most people. The framing of the guy with the tampon and the photos and the phone call. Every time she just wanted to make people suffer. So while she probably did have some mental issues (on top of psychopathy) , they absolutely are not an excuse for any of these actions.

Female murderers tend to get apologetics such as "She was clearly unwell!" It's to be expected. You don't typically hear such statements when men murder. Rightfully so, too. If only female murderers were held in the same contempt as male murderers. This woman knew full well what she was doing, knew full well it was wrong, premeditated both acts (plus others not shown in the documentary), tried insipidly to cover her tracks and was a wretched excuse for a human being. Or, as accurately said by Andrew's dad, "A *beep* bitch."

That's all there is to it.

Well, I did miss one thing: she was a murderous *beep* bitch.

reply

I hate the mental illness is used and thrown around as an excuse. Many people live with a mental illness on a daily basis and do not go around *beep* peoples lives up or taking lives . Yes you are right she was a murderous fecking bitch .
