Oh God, they're making a GAME based on this crappy movie??

Are you really surprised?

I'm not even surprised or upset because I could see it coming a mile away. If it's a straightforward racing game, it had potential to be halfway decent. What does surprise/piss me off is that they rushed it and are putting it out on PS2 and Nintendo DS only because it had to be developed quickly. With the graphic style and gadgets that the trailers have shown, the PS3 and Xbox360 could've created a beautiful, fast, action-packed game (like F-Zero times 100). Instead, it's going to be a crappy, cheap-looking game made to tie in their marketing.

I hope that since it's bound to have the inevitable sequels, that they take the time to develop a proper game with cutting-edge graphics.

Yeah I'm not interested in the movie at all, but being a huge fan of futuristic racing games like F-Zero and Powerdrome, I was actually pretty excited about the prospect of this being made into a game.

But Rick hit it right on the spot. They rushed it out on the non-gamer-oriented Wii and the nearly obsolete PS2, which completely killed its potential. If there had been a well-planned, well-executed release on Xbox 360 and PS3, this could have been great.

I agree. When I first heard it was going to be a game, too, I thought it would be an excellent racing game, especially on the 360 or PS3. It didn't occur to me the idiots would put it out on the wii instead. I bought a blu-ray player instead when I found that out. Would've made a great game if it was done right.

how is the wii non gamer oriented?

reply

Because waving a wand around is for energetic kids. I've been a hardcore gamer ever since the dark, early days of the industry, and I prefer to sit back, relax, and move nothing more than my thumbs.

Also, the games themselves tend to be childish and silly on the Wii (even more so than Nintendo's previous consoles). You'll never find a Halo or Gears of War or Burnout Paradise on the Wii. They're too busy with whimsical hogwash like Wii Play and Lego Star Wars to take gaming seriously.

reply

well I would think the wii is more gamer oriented because you can be more interactive, get up off the couch and actually do things that you do in the game, sounds more fun than moving your thumb around.

reply

If you believe that interaction can only take place in a purely physical sense, then you obviously operate on a different level than I do, and nothing I say will get my point across.

So I'll do us both a favor and stop trying.

Funny, Logan. I'm having a lot of fun with Medal of Honor and Call of Duty here. What, exactly, is it I'm never going to see on my Wii? And I'm loving the controls. Far superior to the sloppy dual analog for FPS. The only thing better then the Wii controls is keyboard and mouse.

Plus.. we didn't move our thumbs in the early days. Nor were the early days that dark. They were bright, active.. fun. A few serious games here and there, but not so much that it's pointless to buy a young child the system. Kinda like the Wii is now. The Wii is bringing gamers back to the fray, I got my 58 year old father to understand and play Call of Duty 3. That wasn't so successful with Halo 2 and the unintuitive pad controls.

The Wii I can play with my son, and my father. Kind of like the Atari, only I was the son, and my grandfather had joined us to play. You know, which really WAS the early days of the industry? Then I can settle in for a night of games that neither of them could possibly understand. Can you say the same about the Ps3? Wii owners have choice, broad appeal, and the sales numbers. No matter how much others want it to be, the Wii is on top for a very good reason, and is likely to for years to come.

My PS3 just sits there collecting dust, though it'll get that blown off once MGS 4 comes out. No doubt that will be amazing.

You make good points.

That will depend on what game you're playing. Spend an afternoon with Donkey Kong Barrel Blast and you'll see what I mean.

"The Wii is bringing gamers back to the fray, I got my 58 year old father to understand and play Call of Duty 3. That wasn't so successful with Halo 2 and the unintuitive pad controls."
Well, whether the controls are intuitive or not aside, I assume your father is a non-gamer, and I also assume he would not have played any other system than the Wii. I never said that the Wii is necessarily inferior to the other systems. But it is definitely intended to spark the interest of casual gamers, non-gamers, and children, which is why it tops the sales charts. I have no problem with that.

Personally, though, I feel at home with the "sloppy dual analog" in my hands. I play for relaxation, not exercise. My mind is far more active and energetic than my body. I wouldn't be able to sustain the level of activity required to play Wii for more than maybe an hour or two.
