USN tattoo

Ok here is a iffy goof... at the beginning of the film the main character sports a USN tat on his arm... but says he was with the Marines. It is listed as a goof... BUT, all the Corpsman (aka Medics) in the Corps are actually in the Navy. So, is it a goof or not?
