Does this movie have any Oscar potential?

I have only seen trailers for this movie, but it looks really good and the movie looks like it could recieve Oscar buzz. Has anybody who's seen this movie agree?

Hell if Slumdog can win, anything is possible.

First of all Slumdog was REALLY good and deserved it's Oscar... You guys are the only two I've heard disliked it... So I am sure you'd think this movie sucked...

However, I thought this was a really good movie... I actually think it could and should be considered for an Oscar in some shape or form... I went in thinking it would be a made-for-BET movie - at best... It blew my expectations out of the water...

I saw this movie two days ago, and thought it was pretty good. Not great; but, pretty good. The acting was fine, but, not in my opinion exceptional. And the manner in which the story was told has been done a million times. Newcomer Niclole Beharie is lovely and was good in her lead role. However, I don't see this film receiving any Academy Award consideration.

I never saw this movie so I cannot comment on how good or better it was then Slumdog. But I have to say I was not crazy about it and most of the people I know were not lovers of the movie either. I even saw it twice to see maybe I was missing something because of all of the hype, I still cannot see what all the fuss was about. And before anybody comments on my taste of movies, don't. It just seemed very exploitative and condescending. And it has nothing to do with the filmmaker being white. One of my favorite movies is Jean Renoir's The River. BTW why is this movie being compared to Slumdog Millionaire? From what I have been reading the only thing it has in common is that the main cast is people of color and poor. Gee if that is all it was people might as well compare Good Times to Slumdog Millionaire!

Factor in that plus the subject and it's almost certain to get a nomination...
